Another Memorial Day without you . This is the year 2020 and because of Covid 19, a world wide pandemic there will be no parades. Maybe parents will instead teach the meaning of the Day to their children. Something I think has been forgotten. Love you , always.

The years go by and many more servicemen and women have made the suprememe sacrifice. Here in Europe we have regulary been the subject of terrorist attacks on civilian targets.
For some reason, probably the Irish name, I always think of William whenever I read or view reports of military casualties.
We value our freedom and those who defend it.

I have a memory to share. Will had a friend that had a trans am. So one night he decided I was going to learn to drive this car. It was in my aunt Kate's driveway, her drive way was really steep. So I started up the driveway and got to the top and it scraped against the bottom of the car, I swear I thought I tore out the muffler. It scared me so bad. Will just laughed at me.

There is not a day goes by that a song I hear reminds me of you. I share the stories of you I remember with the kids. You truly were a brave soul. We love and miss you.

I know you were there at my accident trying to keep me safe. I miss you. I love you. You were the best uncle ever. Well i got good news yesterday i get to start walking again. I am so happy. I wish i could pick up the phone and call you. I wish i could hear your voice. Dad misses you. I can't believe its been almost 9 years. I need to post you little hi notes more often. Memorial Day weekend again. People don't understand why this is the hardest of all holidays to get passed. Growing up we would honor the 'old' soldiers that had gone before us, that's how I always looked at it. Not remembering & honoring our younger brothers or sisters or friends. You should all be here by our side at the picnics and parades. We should be past all the wars, we should have evolved as a world of peace. It seems we go backwards to much. I hope your sacrifice has not been for nothing. You had hoped your service would lead to your children and mine never to have to be in a war ever. I will never forget you or any of our fallen heros who have sacrificed so much. To this, I honor and remember you not just Memorial Day but everyday. Love and Miss you very much.

Hey Bro, I remember the last time I saw you, we were both walking to the flight line to fly on separate missions on Oct 16, you were so happy that I signed your papers to become a Pilot-in-Command with Capt Johnson. So awesome to have met and become really good friends with you, I still remember so many stories. Another one is when we were chasing those bad guys and your jacket flew out of the side of the aircraft, another great night. Loved your laugh and funny stories about Hall and Oates!!

There is so much I want to tell you but don't know how to say it. You were more to me that just an uncle, you were my big brother and a friend. I remember going to the movies with Brian and Jen. You yelling at me when you found out I was smoking, or the phone call I got when I was going to join the Army, when you came to see us in Maryland at my grandparents house, and the time you came to see us when we lived in Florida. You loved and cared about all of us. Just know that I will always love you, you will be forever in my heart. Love your Dami Duck

Just the other day I was watching the dvd again that Brent South (Will's Instructor Pilot) made and I chuckled quite a lot, because Will was just a very happy go lucky person and made everyone feel so welcomed. One day I drove down the road to our cottage and there is William standing in the middle of the dirt road in his boxers changing out of his church clothes and he shot that big grin and we broke out laughing. Today like many days I thought of you because you are always in my heart. GOD BLESS ALL OF OUR TROOPS.

On the anniversary of your passing, I thought of you. Thank you William for your great love of freedom. Your sacrifice has protected America from more terrorists attacks. As our country faces an increased risk of loosing more of our brave soldiers lives with the build up in Afganistan, please know that on the homefront we will be there to help them and their families. I know you are there on the other side William, and there is a peace in me when I think of you. All is well here, thanks again for helping to keep it so.

I was that which others did not want to be.
I went where others feared to go, and did what others failed to do.
I asked for nothing from those who gave nothing, and reluctantly accepted thought of eternal loneliness.... should I fail.
I have seen the face of terror; felt the stinging cold of fear; and enjoyed the sweet taste of a momoents love.
I have cried pained and hoped...but most of all,
I have lived times others would say were best forgotten.
At least some day I will be able to say that I was proud of what was ......A Soldier

I was watching some old videos, and William was in a few. It brought back many good memories of him and the times we shared. He was always a gentleman and always brought flowers. He even wrote the following poem that I thought I would share with his family.

Never seeming to end or start
Suddenly appearing in the mists at the heart
Reaching higher, ever higher
beautiful bold, soul-searching prism,
Forever bonded, never apart
for all the world to see;
It shys away until the time is right
and then it comes with a most powerful flight,
creating a most mesmerizing sight.
For it is hard to stay shy when you are the jewel of the sky.
Beautiful and so rare, this rainbow of love,
It fills my heart, my soul, and my mind.
With an aura that will never part, never go, never blind.
It takes the two, to make but one to last forever.

This is just beautiful and I love the softly playing music in the background. Thanks so much for sharing your brother with all of us. It is a chance for us to get to know him as a a civilian, a loved family member, and as a soldier. Our friendship may have come about from his death but it is also his death and that of my nephew that will keep us forever united as extended family. We know all too well the sadness that haunts us daily from our loss. It's friends and family that help us through.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know William, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
