William H. Emerick

EMERICK, William H. William H. Emerick, 91, of Center St., West Hartland, passed away recently. For over 68 years, he was married to his first and only love of his life, Ida Rose (Cartelli) Emerick. Born on February 23, 1916 in Hartland Hollow, West Hartland; the son of the late William H. Emerick, Sr., and Isabel C. (Stewart) Emerick. Known as "Bucky" by his co-workers, he retired from the Connecticut State Department as a Highway Foreman after 38+ years which included working during the 1938 Hurricane and the 1955 flood. He was a member of The West Hartland 2nd Congregational Church since 1928 and has also been a Deacon and Trustee of the Church. In February of this year, William received recognition for over 50 years if dedicated service as a member of the local Masonic Lodge. His love for the outdoors and nature was also displayed as Sexton/Caretaker for the West Hartland Cemetery Association for over 52 years. William loved his community and was one of the first members to join the West Hartland Historical Society and local Elks Lodge. He was one of the original members of the West Hartland Fire Dept joining in 1948, and became Chief for several years. "Bucky" happily looked forward to being responsible as a Night Watchman/Caretaker for the Riverton Fair Association. He was an avid Red Sox fan and would watch each and every game with his family. His family will always remember him as a loving father, who enjoyed the outdoors often fishing or elk hunting in Colorado, and a caring neighbor always dedicated to his community. In addition to his devoted wife, Ida; he is survived by four children, Nancy L. O'Connor and her husband Richard of Buena Vista, CO, Barry A. Emerick of St. Paul, MN, William H. Emerick, Jr. and his wife Joan of West Hartland, and Sherry A. Costanzo and her husband Robert of Berlin; five loving grandchildren, Roxanne L. O'Connor and Amber O'Connor, both of Buena Vista, CO, Jeanette Emerick of West Hartland, Robert P. Costanzo, III and Gregory "Little William" Costanzo of Berlin; and a great-granddaughter, Hope T. Hansen of Buena Vista, CO. He was predeceased by two brothers, Charles L. Emerick and Kenneth Emerick; three sisters, Doris Muringo, Florence C. Edgerton and Pauline E. Skaret; and a great-grandchild, Patrick J. Hansen. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 3 at The West Hartland 2nd Congregational Church at 11 a.m. Burial will be held at West Hartland Center Cemetery, West Hartland. Friends may call on Thursday, August 2 at Montano-Shea Funeral Home, 922 Main St., Winsted from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to The West Hartland 2nd Congregational Church, The West Hartland Vol. Fire Dept., and/or the Amos Beecher Masonic Lodge in Winsted.
