William R. Padin

1950 - 2022

William R. (Bill) Padin December 31, 1950 – May 24, 2022, Bill Padin passed away on May 24 at the age of 71 after losing his battle with lung cancer and pulmonary fibrosis. He set his last storm trysail at the stroke of midnight (fittingly at eight bells) at the Greenwich Hospital in Greenwich, CT, in the company of his family.   While at Pelham Memorial High School, Bill was active in Boy Scouts, the school hockey team, and the band. He began sailing and was introduced to a broad array of sailors and racing experiences.  He attended Western New England College and was awarded a BS degree in Business Administrstion from American International College and an MBA from Boston University.   Bill moved to Manchester, CT in 1984 where he began a successful 23 year marketing career.  He married Rosemary Florio of Greenwich, CT in 1986, and in Manchester they raised their son Gregory. Bill's love of tinkering flourished as he rebuilt a number of Austin Healy Sprites...his favorites being his British Racing Green Sprite and his son's BugEye.   In 2007, Bill relocated to New Rochelle, NY, where he was employed as a sailboat rigger with McMichaels Yacht Yard and Brokers.  He regularly participated in the Newport to Bermuda race and at that time he introduced his son to sailing.   Bill is survived by his son Gregory William Padin of Astoria, NY, his brothers Manuel R. Padin of Huntington, CT, and Edward R. Padin of New Rochelle, NY, his friend Audrey Landsberg of Manhasset, NY, and his former wife Rosemary Florio Padin of The Villages, FL; as well as nieces, nephews and treasured friends.   Bill was a life long blood donor.  The family requests memorial donations be made to the American Red Cross. A private service was held.
