Frances Ely Obituary
Richton - Frances Jean Hegwood Ely of Richton, died suddenly in her home on May 17, 2021, at the age of 81. Jean was born to Mae Neil and Clinton P. Hegwood, of Richton, on May 30, 1939. After graduating from Richton High School as Valedictorian, Jean moved to Mobile, Alabama and worked at First National Bank. She met Bob Ely of Fairmont, Nebraska, and they were married in Mobile on June 7, 1958. Bob and Jean and their five children lived in Mobile, Jackson and Huntsville, Alabama before they settled in Richton in 1972.
Jean enjoyed quilting, needlework, cooking, and gardening. A pair of peacocks, doves and many wild birds call her yard home. Her home and garden reflect her love of nature and her sense of peace, balance, and well being.
Jean is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bob, her parents; Mae Neil and Clinton P. Hegwood, sisters; Betty Norris (Jim), and Mary Ann Nielson (Bill) and brothers; Don Hegwood and Frank Hegwood (Sarah). She is survived by her brother, Pat Hegwood (Michelle dec.) (Connie) of Olive Branch, MS, sister-in-law, Fran Hegwood of Hattiesburg, Children; Mike Ely (Teresa) of Richton, Jeanine Ely Moss (Jeff) of The Woodlands, TX, Vallie Ely Taylor (Matt) of Greenville, SC, Mark Ely of Savannah, GA and Brian Ely (Cari) of Columbus, MS, 13 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.
Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life at Sacred Heart Church, 313 Walnut St, Hattiesburg, on Saturday, May 22, 2021. A gathering for fellowship and refreshments begins at 10 am followed by mass at 11 am. All are welcome to a reception at Jean's home in Richton at 1 pm.
A private graveside service will be held.

Our deepest sympathy in the loss of Jean. She was a wonderful, kind and great neighbor during the time we lived in Richton. We spent many times together with her and Bob. Just learned of her passing.
