Herman Ray Taylor

Herman Ray Taylor, 86, of Petal, MS died October 17, 2013, at Forrest General Hospital due to a lengthy illness.

Visitation will be Monday, October 21, 2013, at Indian Springs Baptist Church in Petal, from 9:30 - 11 a.m., with services at 11 a.m., burial will follow immediately at the church cemetery.

Mr. Taylor served in the Merchant Marines during WWII and he served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Taylor is retired from Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center.

He is preceded in death by his father, Walter Liston Taylor and mother, Eva Simmons Taylor, and brother, W.L. Taylor Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Strahan Taylor; son, Liston Lee (Carol) Taylor of Petal and daughter, Susan (David) Collier also of Petal; brother, Robert Taylor and sister, Eva Merle Locke both of Oak Grove. He is also survived by five grandchildren, one great-grandson and several nieces and nephews.

As his grandson I feel as though I related to him in ways no one else did.
We had very similar personalities. Easy go'n, hot tempered, enjoyed the outdoors, and willing to help in whatever way possible.

He had the best stories and will always be remembered.
