Norma Doleac Lipscomb

Norma Elizabeth Doleac Lipscomb, 91, passed away February 26, 2015 while a resident of Washington Care Center in Greenville, MS. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church followed by burial at Highland Cemetery.
Mrs. Lipscomb was one of five children born to Marie Ida Chauvet and Louis Theofield Doleac. She was born on November 16, 1923 in Gulfport, MS. Mrs. Lipscomb was raised in Hattiesburg where she met and married in 1941 "the love of her life", James Harvey Lipscomb, Jr. She was a young 17 year old bride who was always a devoted and loving wife. Norma and James were the very best of friends. Their love continued throughout 57 years of marriage. They were proud parents of their two sons, Jimmy and Mackie, who they raised while living in Hattiesburg and Greenwood.
Mrs. Lipscomb was a longtime employee of J.C. Penney both in Hattiesburg and Greenwood. She was an avid bridge player and belonged to several groups while living in Hattiesburg. Norma enjoyed many friends especially those friends made through her bridge playing. Her closest friends were her two sisters, Libby and Joyce. They were called the "Golden Girls" by their family. A fun loving, favorite participant of the YMCA Active Adult Program, where she was once crowned "Queen of Hearts". In her last years, much love and compassion was shown to her by the caring staff and residents of Washington Care, where she was dubbed the "Bingo Queen". Everyone knew her love of coffee from her years of coffee served in bed to her by her husband, James, to the 'senior coffees' at McDonald's. She was a faithful communicant of St. Thomas of Aquinas Catholic Church where she helped monthly with the counting of the collection.
Mrs. Lipscomb was a member of a large family clan of Doleacs and Lipscombs. She enjoyed the fellowship and family celebrations with her many relatives. She will always be affectionately remembered by her sons and their wives: Jim and Mary Lynn Lipscomb of Greenville, MS and Malcom and Susan Lipscomb of Germantown, TN. Nornie, as her grandchildren called her, will be remembered by them and their spouses: Tracy and Andy Lock of Pohangina Valley, New Zealand, Jamie and Jenn Lipscomb of Hoover, AL, Kristen and Sam Temple of Clinton, MS, Parker and Olivia Lipscomb of Greenville, MS, Hunter and Whitney Lipscomb of Gulfport, MS, Anna and Jeff White of Collierville, TN, Malcom Lipscomb of Chattanooga, TN. Remembering Nornie are her great-grandchildren: Hannah and Joris van Geel of Torquay, Australia, Duncan Riley of Calgary, Canada, Joe Lock of Gold Coast, Australia, Shelby Riley of Hawkes Bay, New Zealand, Ellie and Olivia Lipscomb of Hoover, AL, Garren, Grayson and Gage Temple of Clinton, MS, Matthew and Emerson Lipscomb of Greenville, MS, Julianna and Alyssa White of Collierville, TN and great-great-grandson Preston GowlandRiley of Palmerston North, New Zealand. Mrs. Lipscomb is remembered by her sisters and husband, Libby and Jimmy Moudy of Hattiesburg, MS and Joyce Scott of Hattiesburg, MS, and also sister-in-laws, Lois Doleac Grayson of Hattiesburg, MS, and Joyce Doleac of Gulfport, MS.
Mrs. Lipscomb was preceded in death by her parents, Marie and Louis Doleac, and her husband, James Lipscomb of Hattiesburg, her brothers, Malcom Doleac of Hattiesburg, MS and Buddy Doleac of Gulfport, MS and her brother- in law, Bud Scott of Hattiesburg, MS.
Visitation will be Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church from 9 a.m. until service.
