Richard Potin Obituary
Hattiesburg, MS
Services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday at Westminster Presbyterian Church for Mr. Richard F. Potin, 73, of Hattiesburg, MS.
He died Monday, July 17, 2017 at Forrest General Hospital.
Interment will be in Highland Cemetery.
Mr. Potin retired from Hattiesburg Paper Company and served in the U.S. Army Reserves.He was a long time member and deacon of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Mr. Potin created the Westminster Furniture Ministry. He was an avid canoer who loved camping with his family. Mr. Potin coached for the Hattiesburg Youth Soccer Association. He was recipient of the Junior Auxiliary Humanitarian of the Year Award of Hattiesburg and the 2017 Rotary Club of Hattiesburg Bill Gwyn Non-Rotarian Service Award. He was chosen in 2015 as one of the "Hattiesburg American 12 who make a Difference."
He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Elizabeth Randolph Potin.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Carr Potin of Hattiesburg; one son, Christopher Richard Potin (Jean Anne) of Hattiesburg; one daughter, Betsy Jean McDaniel (Shawn) of Sumrall; one brother, David Randolph Potin (Louise) of Greenville; four grandchildren, Joseph and Fletcher Potin, and Dylan and Bailey Kate McDaniel.
Memorials may be made to the Westminster Presbyterian Church Furniture Ministry, 115 N. 25th Avenue, Hattiesburg, MS 39401.
Visitation will be 5:00-8:00 PM Thursday and beginning at 10:00 AM Friday at Westminster Presbyterian Church.

I was thinking about Richard the other day. While passing the location of the old location of the Jitney Jungle on Hardy street were we became friends. Never forget how he helps my mother with her groceries. He is missed, along with many others that have passed. RIP

THE BEST NEIGHBOR EVER!!!!
Mr. Richard and Mrs. Sharon showered me and my son with so much neighborly and Godly love. He was always available to assist in whatever home issue I had and I am extremely thankful.
Most of all I am grateful for God giving me the Potins as neighbors as I raised my son. They were like grandparents to him and we simply adore them.
Mr. Richard you will be remembered and missed.
Mrs. Sharon we are always here for you-just come on over anytime.

So sorry to hear Richard has passed. I met Richard as both of us was growing up in the late 50's and early 60's at the Jitney Gungle Grocery store on Hardy Street. Close to Camper Park. We always talked as he worked there and he was very nice to my mother who shop there as we were from Richton. He was out going then as he was in life. We became pretty close friends. Read about his work through the church in the paper about a year ago. Just wish i could have got intouch with him back then. Am sure he will be missed very much by all.

Heartfelt sympathy to the Potin Family. I met/knew Richard when we both were in the Army Reserve (Hattiesburg during the 60's & 70's ). I will always remember Richard as a kind-gentle-caring person. God Bless .
