September 26, 1935 - June 19, 2011

Wanda Jo Long passed away peacefully Saturday evening, June 19, 2011, at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, MS after battling cancer and pneumonia. Wanda was the daughter of Hardy and Velma Lyle where she grew up in Atlanta, TX. She moved to Huntsville with her husband and two children from Memphis, TN, June, 1975 where they lived for the next 20+ years.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Buddy in November 2010. She is survived by her brother David Lyle, her son Andy and his wife Lisa and daughter Dana. Wanda has many nieces and nephews and is the step Grandmother to Dante, 16, and Julian, 13.

Wanda, who was known as "Red on the Head" was the first band Sweet Heart of Atlanta, TX from 1953 to 1954. She was a drummer in her highschool marching band and she loved to sing! She was a legal secretary for many years and retired as a document analyst for Redstone Arsenal. She will always be remembered for her warm smile, her quick humorous wit, her love and devotion to her husband Buddy and their two children. She was an avid bridge player and an incredible cook. She was also known by all the kids in the neighborhood for her fun and loving personality and especially her delicious chicken gumbo.

Memorial Services to be held July 9 at 4:00 p.m. at Laughlin's Funeral Home in Huntsville, Alabama.

My deepest sympathy goes to the Long Family. Your friends and family can find comfort at Isiah 25:8. This scripture tells us that God wwill swallow up death forever. May this scriptiure comfort you'all in your time of distress.
