George Horak Obituary

George Horak, most recently from Lake Havasu City and formerly of Glenwood, Illinois was born on Oct. 18, 1941, to Emil and Barbara Horak in Dolton, Illinois. He passed on Jan. 30, 2024 at the age of 82 and was preceded in death by his parents and three older siblings Emil, Arthur, Barbara and younger brother Clarence.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years Dorothy Lee (Lewis) Horak, his children Cindy (Chuck) Michalski, Bonnie Horak, Amy (Ismael) Hernandez, Rita (John) Linnemann, and Gregory Horak, his grandchildren Julie (Mike) Carlson, Joel (Virginia Wyatt) Michalski, Shari French, Emily Michalski, Vincent Hernandez, Ryan Hernandez, Abigail Linnemann, Anna Linnemann, Zosia Horak, Charles Horak, and Nadia Horak, great-grandchildren Adam and Dean Carlson and a third expected in May 2024. He also left behind his sister Josephine Bland, special friends Jerry and Diane Koller, many nieces and nephews.
He graduated from Thornton Township High School in 1960 and began working for various businesses retiring as a driver for PTO Services. As a Glenwood volunteer firefighter, George worked hard to give back to his community and retired as a captain in 2004 after 34 years of service.
He believed in helping others, and as a member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, built on that belief by supporting The Wood Shop Ministry and singing in the choir. When in Illinois, he supported St. Andrew's Lutheran Church by assisting with the Seniors Outreach program while it was active and served on the church council.
George loved to travel and joined Bartlett Tours on over 25 trips. His other hobbies included participating in many fishing tournaments with The Elks Fishing Club and being an avid sports fan. He also enjoyed playing softball, bowling, biking, hunting and watching his favorite Chicago teams - the Cubs and the Bears.
Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2024, at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Lake Havasu City. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to one of the following: a local volunteer fire department; a regional or state burn camp; the wood shop ministry or music departments at Mt. Olive.

Dear Dott and all of your family and your adopted family. You are all in our thoughts and prayers. George was a good mentor for all of us. Thank goodness for memories, I will always remember that grin, or or was it a smile? Most of the time so quiet, and reserved, easy going, and a really strong hugger! Please remember our thoughts and prayer are sent to all of you. Rest in peace George, you earned those angel wings! Love and hugs, Bud and Judy
