Richard Charles Simpkins
1949 - 2021
Richard Charles Simpkins (Rich), 72, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 21, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of 52 years Roberta; children Roxanne and Renee; four grandchildren Kaylee, Mason, Alexander and Colton; his sisters Patricia and Dorothy.
He was born Jan. 4, 1949, in Medford, New Jersey to James and Edna Simpkins. At the age of 19, he was drafted into the Army and was stationed in Fort Hunter Liggett, California. He married his high school sweetheart, Roberta in 1969 before proudly serving his country in the Vietnam War. After returning from Vietnam, Rich and his wife moved to the newly built town of Lake Havasu City where they lived for 50 years and had two daughters, Roxanne and Renee.
Rich had a need for speed and loved to race. He enjoyed racing his 1968 AMX and later took up racing jet boats, stock cars and off-road vehicles. He was a member of the Boat and Ski Club where he pulled speed skiers and raced his Sanger jet boat. Rich was a family man who enjoyed spending time on the lake with his family and friends, working on cars, hunting, and fishing. He was a kind, generous man who was loved and respected in the community. He was always there to give a helping hand to anyone who needed it.
Rich owned his own cabinet and countertop businesses, Countywide Countertops, for over 45 years in Lake Havasu. He was a great craftsman who enjoyed his work. He was well known for the many beautifully built custom cabinets and countertops for many businesses and homes in the area.
After retiring in 2017, Rich and his wife moved to Williams where they built their dream home in the peace and quiet of the desert mountains.
Family and friends whose lives Rich touched are invited to a graveside service with military honors on Oct. 4, 2021 at the Prescott National Cemetery, 500 Hwy 89 Prescott AZ at 10 a.m. to reminisce and celebrate his life.
