Mamie "Sis" (Moody) Spear of Lawrenceburg, Ky., departed from this life on Friday, March 17, 2023. Sis was a Henry County native and daughter of the late John Wilson and Thelma (Dowden) Moody. As a former member of Point Pleasant Christian Church, she loved to serve others, especially young people.
Having been a hard worker, she had two full 20-year careers. She retired from PCI Pharmacy (now part of Omnicare) in St. Louis, Mo. The company focused on pharmaceutical care for senior nursing facilities. She loved her job as she was able to serve. She began her career as the sixth employee of the company servicing eight nursing homes and helped build the company to service over 200 nursing homes. She felt tremendous satisfaction being able to accomplish this. After 20 years of service, as the Director of Courier Services, she retired.
At that point, Sis and Gerald moved back to Kentucky. She worked at Kroger in Shelbyville, Ky., where you could find her behind the deli counter, always with a smile and a kind word. After 20 years of service, Sis retired.
She loved spending time with her family including her four grandchildren. She was fiercely loyal to her family. And, she had a lifelong fondness of all things chocolate, but skip the nuts. She will certainly be missed by many people.
Sis is survived by her husband, Gerald B. Spear of Lawrenceburg, Ky; daughter, Melissa Spear of St. Louis, Mo.; sons, Todd (Karen) Spear of Lawrenceburg, Ky. and Gregory Spear of Frankfort, Ky.; sister, Tym (Johnnie) Ricketts of Campbellsburg, Ky; brother: John Warren (Betty) Moody of Bethlehem, Ky.; and grandchildren, Brittany Spear of Louisville, Ky., Orey Spear of Los Angeles, Calif., Devin (Alex) McKenzie of Paris, Ky. and Ben Spear of Wilder, Ky.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 31, 2023 at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home. Honorary Pallbearers will be Gregory Spear, Todd and Karen Spear, Melissa Spear, Brittany Spear, Orey Spear, Devin and Alex McKenzie and Ben Spear. Private Interment will be held in New Castle Cemetery.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. until service time on Friday, March 31, 2023 at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home.
