Candace West Obituary
Candace Joye West
January 21, 1954 - March 9, 2025
Candace Joye West passed away peacefully in Moses Lake, Washington with family at her side, after a long battle with chronic health issues.
Candy, as she was affectionately known, was born in Tacoma, Washington to Evelyn June Burleigh (West). Candy moved to Montana when she was a young child. She spent many of her grade school, middle, and high school years in Tacoma with her beloved grandmother, Thelma. Candace had many fond memories of her grandmother's house and was very close to her aunts Gladys, Louella, and Pearl. She graduated from Helena High School in 1972. Candy lived in Helena until 1990 when she moved to Puyallup, WA where she lived for almost a decade. In 1999 Candy moved back to East Helena to be closer to her children and was able to help care for her parents. Candace moved to Moses Lake, WA in 2023 where she lived until her passing.
Candy had a lifelong passion for creativity and crafts of almost any kind. She was a skilled seamstress who could fix nearly any sewing mishap and found joy in working with fabric and thread, sewing beautiful dresses, clothing, décor, and more. Her love for crafts and creativity extended to crocheting, diamond art painting, and decorating cakes for her children and grandchildren's birthdays. She shared her passion with her grandchildren, spending hours creating gingerbread houses, blankets, paintings, and many other imaginative projects with them. When it came to her crafting, and clothing, the more bling the better. Candy also enjoyed playing games and had a sharp sense and quick skills at cards and dice. She expressed her love for people through her crafts and spent countless hours creating custom gifts for friends and family. Candy crocheted more than 40 scarves for her fellow residents and staff at Brookdale this past Christmas and made sure that everyone received a Christmas card.
Candy is survived by her four children and nine grandchildren; Charity Rowsey and her children Lucas and Kaylee; Heather (Jason) Petrino and their children Jason, Mikaylah, Patrick, and Danika; Melissa (Kyle) Roark and their children Jackson, Levi, and Olin; and Troy (Stephanie) Johnson. Her siblings; Chrystal Jokela, Robert Stein, Lavina Groves-Knutson, and Carolee Synness; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandmother Thelma Overturf, her mother Evelyn Burleigh, her father David Burleigh, and great-nephew Andre.
A memorial service will take place at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 22, 2025 at the LDS Helena Stake Center at 4225 Bobcat Dr., Helena, MT. Reception and interment to follow. Attendees are invited to wear pink, Candy's favorite color.
Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers for Candy and her family. Also, a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Brookdale Hearthstone and Hospice of Moses Lake for the care given to our mother over the last six months.
