Clay Anders Obituary

Clay Anders, 79, of Missoula, died at the Edgewood Vista Assisted Living Facility, in Missoula, on Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007.

He was born on June 19, 1928, in Helena, to Arthur A. and May Loretta (Moore) Anders.

Clay received his master's degree from Montana State University, in Bozeman. He also attended East Kentucky University at Richmond, Ky. He entered the U.S. Army in January 1947, and was honorably discharged in May 1948, with the rank of corporal.

Clay and Dorothy Waltermann were married on June 21, 1955, in Columbus. He taught in East Helena for two quarters, then taught industrial arts at Western Montana College in Dillon for 32 years.

Clay loved trains and had a model train. He was an outdoorsman, hunted, biked, and snow-machined. He was a member of Sons and Daughters of Montana Pioneers and Northern Pacific Railway Historical Association. He loved every aspect of history, especially the heritage of Montana.

Clay was deeply involved in many activities at Western Montana College. He was a member of the Faculty Association, Montana Federation of Teachers, AFL-CIO. He served as chairman of the industrial arts department and was advisor for the Industrial Arts Club.

Clay was a kind, generous compassionate person. He had great concern for his students at Western and was dearly loved by them. He respected all things in nature, being a true environmentalist.

His parents preceded him in death.

Dorothy and Kids, I am so saddend to hear of Clay's passing. He was such a kind person, and was always one of my favorite relatives. I always wished that we had lived closer. I used to love hearing my Dad, Howard and Clay talk about past experiences at family gatherings.I can still see the big smiles on their faces. I think they had some great times together. You have my deepest sympathy.

Mrs. Anders & Family, Your husband/father was my teacher for a short time in East Helena. He was such a caring person and I have often wondered through the years what had happened to him, so I was very sad to read that he had passed away. He cared about each one of us individually and was a truly remarkable person. He will always be the young man I knew in my mind. You can be very proud...he made such an impression on me it has lasted over 50 years!!
You are all in my prayers.
