Keith Kallio Obituary

With his wife, Lynn, at his side, Keith Alan Kallio died suddenly and unexpectedly at St. Peter's Hospital on April 28, 2006.

He is survived by his parents, Alan (Rachel) Kallio and Phyllis (Joseph) McCullar; mother-in-law, Joy Bruck, and father-in-law, Dave (Gaynell) Bruck; sisters, Lisa Kallio (Rob Bird), and Michelle (Karl) Haumberger; brother, Mike McCullar; brothers-in-law, Todd (Becky) Bruck, Bruce Bruck, Dustin Whealon and Chris Whealon; aunts and uncles, Carol Hughes, Janice (Pete) Warren, Scott (Rhonda) Townsend, Joan (Ralph) Kolczak and Mark Townsend; and his dear friends,,, Mitch Morey and Tony Catelfomo; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was born in Butte on March 1, 1969. He moved to Helena shortly after, and at age 8, he rode off to second grade on his 20-inch unicycle with his books under his arm. Of course, he made his sister Lisa carry his bass clarinet. At age 20, he rode off to the University of Montana on his 6-foot unicycle to complete an honors B.S. with a double major in business and art.

Keith was an artistic genius, earning extra money for college by air brushing shirts, Halloween costumes and even strippers. His baby buggy was a fast boat and his first Christmas gift was an orange life jacket. At age 6, he was waterskiing in tournaments. This led to hockey, snow skiing, tobogganing, sailing, and his latest adventure, hair-raising sports like kite boarding, iceboating and kite surfing. He was a great teacher. His friends knew this and learned from the best. His enthusiasm was infectious and he could get his friends to do anything, even if they were afraid. He was happy with his life, living each day to the fullest, doing things most people only dreamed of. Everyone loved him, and their lives were better for meeting him. Keith will be forever young and the entire ZOO Crew won't be the same.

Come help us celebrate Keith's life today, May 1, at 2 p.m. in Helena at the Brewhouse on Euclid Avenue. Keith, wherever you are, may the waters be calm and the sky windy. Memorial contributions may be made to the Epilepsy Foundation, 4351 Garden City Drive, Landover, MD 20785-7223 or the charity of your choice.

Renee and myself got to know Keith the last few years with him teaching us to kite board on Canyon Ferry. We so much enjoyed his outlook on watersports, fun, and life. We have just found out about his untimely death and are quite shocked and deeply saddened. My best to Alan and the whole family during this time. Keith was quite a character and Canyon Ferry Lake will not be the same without him.

Keith...you were my closest guy friend in high school. Even after I left Helena and would come back to visit, we could always pick up right where we left off. You will always be my favorite Big Kid. I love you and will miss you!

Lynn...You were the best fit for Keith and he will always be with you in your heart. Always remember the good times. I love you too!

Dear Lynn, Lisa & Al,

My heart is broken for all ya'll

I am so honored to have been blessed by the friendship of your family and to have been given such an amazing standard of humanity. Keith's example of grace has always made me want to be a better person.

Al, your generosity in allowing me free reign as a youth in your home will never be forgotten the memories I have of those days still bring me to hopeless laughter, Damn we tore it up! I think that's when you lost the hair:)

Lisa, you were his adorable baby sister and he hung the moon on you, when we were not tormenting or getting beat up by him! I am lucky you shared him with me. I am so grateful to you for the memories.

Lynn, the day you married him I almost died of envy, he was lucky to have you and he knew it.

Thank you for loving him into the other side.

Naatsi Aohkii Ninaa...Keith you are my Peter Pan, Thank you for teaching me unconditional life, love, and how to forgive. I am sorry I didn't pick up the damn phone.

Always My Love,

The Kallio family: my heart goes out to you at this time. I knew Keith while in high school and recall him being a very upbeat person. His lack of fear scared and intrigued me at the same time. I know he will be missed in this world.

As was shared, I too was a student of Keiths. He taught me to ride a unicycle two weeks before I was to get married. I broke my ankle at that lesson. How we have laughed at that experience.

Lynn, my condolences to you and your family.

I wish I could say I'd done half the things Keith experienced in his lifetime. I will miss your smile, your sense of humor and getting to hear about your next adventure! Life is too short to not do what brings you happiness. Thanks for helping me to realize that. My thoughts are with your family and friends.

Oh, Keith, since learning of your passing, I have been just devistated! I cannot imagine this world without you in it. I will always be grateful for those mutual friends that kept us up on each other, and one of my biggest regrets will have not taken the time to have a beer together at your shop as you suggested. You were my high school sweetheart and my first true love. You will always be apart of my heart.

Lynn, Al and Lisa: My heart goes out to you at this time.

On behalf of the Four Lakes Ice Yacht Club of Madison, Wisconsin, please accept our deepest sympathies.

I never had the opportunity to meet him face to face but we did correspond by email about ice boating. When ever anyone contacted me about where to rent an ice boat, I always told them that Keith from Montana was the only person to talk to about that. I had always figured that one day I'd have a chance to meet Keith on an ice boating trip to Montana. Reading his obituary, I regret not having met this guy with such spirit. Sail on, Keith.

Keith was someone you don't forget I know I didn't. I remember his Happy infectious attitude from grade school all the way into early adulthood. He spun his positive outlook and people got caught in it. We are all better people for having known him. (Even if it was years ago.)
