Scott "Scooter" Wordal

Scott Wordal Obituary

Scott "Scooter" Wordal, 50, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 12, after a short but difficult battle with cancer. Scott was born in Helena to Edward and Delores Wordal on March 4, 1957.

A lifelong Montanan, Scott grew up in Helena, attended local schools and graduated from Helena High School in 1975. In high school, he played football and wrestled. A U.S. Navy veteran, he attended Northern Arizona University, as well as Carroll College.

Scott worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Helena, but was primarily a long-haul truck driver.

Scott was very active in the community, having coached women's softball for many years and was truly dear to all his players. He played golf and was involved in golfing for charities. In his mid-30s, he tried out for a professional baseball team, did quite well, especially in speed, but didn't quite make the team.

Cribbage was his favorite card game and pool his favorite pastime. Several years ago, he and his pool team played in a big-time tournament in Las Vegas.

The young man was very well known in Helena. He genuinely liked people he met and had numerous friends, and he took every opportunity to help others in need. Several years ago he generously donated a number of items to Katrina victims. Having a great sense of humor, he was always good for a joke to get a laugh. He was a great friend as well as a first-rate brother and father, deeply devoted to his daughter, Chaela Dawn.

Scott was preceded in death by his parents, Edward John and Delores Blake Wordal, and a brother, Blake.

He is survived by his daughter, Chaela Dawn Wordal; brother, Eric; and his sons, Dan and Nate, all of Helena; and sister, Loma Dawn Durgham (Sessim) of Albuquerque, N.M.

Cremation has taken place and services for Scott will be held at 1 p.m., on Saturday, Jan. 19, at Saint Peter's Episcopal Cathedral. Following the funeral, a celebration of his life will begin at 2:30 p.m., at Smith's Place in East Helena for all his many friends.

Express condolences at www.legacy.com/HelenaIR.

As a former golf professional at Fox Ridge in Helena, I remember Scooter frequently arriving late for men's league and having to give him rides out to his starting hole...I enjoyed those cart rides for he was entertaining to chat with. My wife personally enjoyed the way he always greeted her with compliments such as "Hello Gorgeous"! Scooter's positive attitude and joy is a great way for us all to live.

Eric and family,
We were very suprised to hear Scott was so sick and more so that he has now passed. I remember how kind he was to me at the our last reunion, the smile & respect.
I remember the first time I met him. My family had just moved to MT and he was the cutest boy I had ever seen; he broke my heart!!!
We will miss him. You are all in our hearts now and in the days to come.

I met Scott purely by happenstance several years ago as he combed the beach at Canyon Ferry on property once owned by his parents and now owned by us. We ended up visiting for quite awhile and I left that conversation genuinely impressed by the character and spirit of the man. I was saddened and shocked by the news of his death. As brief as our acquaintance, I won't forget him. My condolences to his family and friends.

Scott was able to make everyone feel good when he was around. I had such a crush on him in high school- he was such a "hunk". When we saw each other at the 30 year class reunion he held out his arms and gave me a big bear hug. He still had a way of making a person feel special and he was still a "hunk". God Bless you Scott-you will be in my heart forever.

God saw he was getting tired, and a cure was not to be.
So he put His arms around him and whispered, “come with Me.”
With tearful eyes we watched him suffer and saw him fade away.
Although we loved him dearly we could not make him stay.
A golden heart stopped beating; it was time for him to rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best.

Scottie was a special man; friendly to all, full of laughter; always a smile with that twinkle in his eyes. I am proud to have known him and call him my friend; he’ll always have a special place in my heart. My thoughts are with Eric and Chaela. Have comofrt in knowing that he touched many lives. Love and miss you Scottie

I was very heartbroken to read that Helena had lost a very nice guy. Scooter was "one of a kind". Always happy and always had a smile on his face. I met Scooter when he was playing on the Valley Eight Ball pool league. He was a fun "team mate" and I do believe our trip to Vegas for the tournament was truly the highlight of his life. I will never forget the fun we had there and the smile on his face each time he played. Scooter you were a great friend and will never be forgotten. Rest In Peace my friend.

Lasting Memories:
From the moment you rode up the driveway of our mountain abode in that crazy big orange "roadrunner: truck, hopped out and flashed that famous Scooter smile - I knew you'd never be forgotten. Then for 3 days it was marathon cribbage and stories of growing up in a small town with your best buddies. Had me rolling in the floor. It was crystal clear why everyone that knew you - LOVED YOU. You'll be missed forever by this Scooter-fan.
Rest in Peace, "Hose-A"

Lorna, Eric and family - I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I have wonderful memories of when we were kids especially the slumber parties and watching "B" rated horror movies and telling scary stories so that none of us would want to go to sleep. Sledding down the alley behind Holter Street and the list goes on. I am going to miss Scott greatly! I would run into him at Fox Ridge or Alive at 5 when I would be in town visiting my family. He always had a bear hug and a kiss for me. He was such a blessing to me and those who knew him. His legacy will live in all of us who knew him. Scott,
I'll always remember...

you and mom forcing me and Chaela to take golf lessons;

you and your newest classic car of the week, the gold convertible, the orange crate, and that gorgeous teal truck that you let me and Chaela take to the movie;

hearing you yell at the TV when a Notre Dame football game didin't go as well as you had hoped;

you introducing me to Townhouse crackers with salmon dip;

how you brought all of the wonderful German Shephards into our lives; Stryder and Zeus, both who have passed; and Luna who we still have today;

traveling to Silverwood and you videotaping everything;

you and mom surprising me and Chaela with a trip to Couer D' Alene during Christmas and taking a boat ride to see all of the beautiful lights;

you taking us go-carting;

you cheering us on at our many sports events;

you making pancakes and you and Chaela eating them with peanut butter;

how much you enjoyed my chocolate chip cookies;

there are soo many great memories I have of you, the list is endless. We all miss you greatly, but take comfort in knowing you are in a better place.

May you Rest in Peace Scott, my second father and a wonderful man.

We knew Scotty well and he was always such a compassionate and wonderful young man.

May God's promise of eternal life and love of family and friends bring you the needed comfort and peace.

Treasure all your many wonderful memories, as there are so many of them.

May God Bless,
Charlie, Pam & John Brown
