Bill Chapman Obituary

Celebrating the life of BILL JUNIOR CHAPMAN, who peacefully passed away at home surrounded by family in New Port Richey, Florida on May 12, 2024.
Bill was born on July 15, 1931, in Huntington, WV. He lived most of his life as a proud resident of Chesapeake, OH.
Bill always reminisced about his favorite decade, the 1950's. This was when he married a beautiful woman who gave him two incredible sons. During this time, he also proudly enlisted as a United States Marine, where he bravely served his country in the Korean War. Bill's unmatched work ethic continued long after his service. He accomplished a 43-year career with the American Water Corporation and was an active member in the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion in Huntington, WV.
Without exception, Bill's greatest joy in life was watching his family flourish. Left to continue his legacy are his devoted wife of 73 years, Imogene Eloise Hurley Chapman, along with their son, Michael D. Chapman and daughter-in-law Lois A. Chapman. He was also a cherished grandfather to Misty D. Seum and her husband Herman L. Seum, Michael D. Chapman II and his husband, Adir J. Ferreira; a great-grandfather to Ashley M. Montague and her husband James T. Montague, Savanah M. Seum and her fiancé Dillon Fuller; and great- great-grandfather to Freya L. Montague. He is also survived by his brother, Frankie Gibson, and nephew Paul (Rickey) Bullock. Bill is also dearly loved and missed by numerous nephews, nieces, and friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his son Mark A. Chapman; mother Ada F. Gibson and stepfather, Frank Gibson; father William Chapman; and brothers, Virgil "Butch" Chapman, Jack L. Chapman, and James (Earl) Chapman.
Bill is remembered by most for his extraordinary work ethic and undying loyalty. However, those who were closest to him also remember his love of music and dancing. He never missed the opportunity to "cut a rug" and sing like nobody was listening.
For Bill, it was never "goodbye," rather, it was simply, "until next time." In honor of his incredible life and legacy, we carry forward the love and lessons he gifted to us in our hearts always.
Family and friends are invited to remember a life very well-lived at a visitation from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 18 at Chapman's Mortuary in Huntington, WV. The service to honor Bill will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 19 at Chapman's Mortuary. Online condolences may be sent to www.chapmans-mortuary.com.
