BRUCE BEVINS Obituary

BRUCE CLINTON BEVINS, 65, of Huntington, W.Va., died Oct. 11, 2016. He was born Dec. 28, 1950, in Lexington, Ky., the son of Earl and Delphine Bevins. He was a mining engineer dedicated to his alma mater, the University of Kentucky, and served in engineering positions for C&O Railroad and Teco Coal. A lifelong athlete, Bruce played basketball and football for Vinson High School and later enjoyed bicycling, snow skiing and golf. Bruce's greatest passion was for his family, especially his high school sweetheart, Patty Stephens Bevins, who cared for him throughout his battle with ALS with amazing faith, hope and love. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by Patty, to whom he was married 44 years; one son, Bruce Bevins II, his wife Arianne and children Connor, Harrison and Ella, all of Matthews, N.C.; two daughters, Natalie Roy, her husband Zackary and children Hayden and Carter, all of Lexington, Ky.; and Erica Bevins and her dogs Zoey and Mac of Huntington; a brother, Dave Bevins and his wife Molly of Huntington; a sister, Elizabeth Pinson and her children Cayley and Turner of Greensboro, N.C.; in-laws, Herb and Kathy Stephens of Springtown, Tex., and John and Cindy Stephens of Hurricane, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Fun-loving and giving, Bruce was a man known for his strong demeanor, fiery debates and deep loyalty. He loved to laugh and had a well-known affection for Buffy, the tiny poodle who visited him in the hospital and eagerly claimed her spot on his lap or beside him every time he returned. The family sends special thanks to WeCare Medical, our nurse Sandy Smith and Georgiana, Yanet and Missy with Hospice of Huntington, who all provided loving care throughout our journey. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, at Kenova United Methodist Church, with Pastor Pat Elliott and Pastor Jim Richards officiating. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, at the church with burial following in Docks Creek Cemetery in Kenova. Rollins Funeral Home in Kenova is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ALS Association, Kentucky Chapter, 8640 Haines Dr., Suite F, Florence, KY 41042, or to Hospice of Huntington, 1101 6th Ave., Huntington, WV 25701.
