G.C. SMYTHERS Obituary
G.C. SMYTHERS, 91, of Kenova, passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2016, at the Wayne Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be conducted by Minister David Roach at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2016, at the Reger Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery, Kenova. G.C. was born on March 30, 1925, in Catlettsburg, Ky., to the late Clifford and Edith Jackson Smythers. He was a machine operator and a member of the Ceredo Church of Christ. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Helen Smythers, one son, David Smythers, and a brother, Jack Smithers. He is survived by a son, Michael (Barbara) Smythers, daughters, Fran (Kenny) Chambers and Katie (Gary) Harmon, 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until service time on Saturday at the Reger Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.regerfh.com.

Mr. Smythers was a delight to encounter each time I met him at the entrance to Wayne Nursing and Rehab. He was welcoming and open, with a sweet, gentle way with people. He was my "boyfriend" and I was his "sweetheart." I will miss him, as will many others who knew him there.
