Back in the early 1970s, the Shropshire's would make regular visits to Daniel Meyer for TCU basketball games. We always remembered Coach playing as hard as he could, hustling and diving all over the floor turning completely red in the face. For me, as I was in my latter stages of Pee Wee basketball, watching him play left an impression that would eventually carry me through my college career. Little did I know at that time he would end up being my coach at Rosemont and then at Paschal. Even then, his passion and mentoring at the beginning stage of his career was visible. He was always there with a word of encouragement for anyone inspiring those to become the best they could be. During the course of life, you have those who mold you into the person you become. He was one of those individuals for me and he will never be forgotten. His influence on all those he touched during his career and personally will be felt for years to come. Rest in peace, Coach!
Herb Sarah and i stopped in to see Kathy, John, and Pattie. We stopped at your tank and Sarah caught this one. Thanks for being such a great neigh

As an athletic trainer who worked under Mr. Stephens, I don't know if I believed his passing to be true. Mr. Stephens was always the nicest toughest guy. An number of the athletic trainers in FWISD saw him on several occasions for numerous bumps or bruises cause he never stopped. It is only now looking at his smile he always had that I think it has hit home. If more of us had his ALWAYS positive outlook on life the world would be a much better place. I Sir am a much better person having worked and gotten to know you. May you rest in peace, thoughts and prayers to all your family and friends.

To the Herb Stephens Family - our deepest condolences for your loss. Coach Stephens was an incredible man who mad a deep impression on my life. He wasn't coaching when I went to Paschal, but was my Anatomy/Physiology teacher and was a tremendous impact on my life. Like many young men, I can honestly say I wouldn't be the man I am today without knowing Coach Stephens. May God rest his soul and may He bless your family.

I knew Herb as a member of the Fort Worth Scottish Pipes and Drums. He was a kind and generous man. Herb had big plans for the band and started involving us in local sports activities, but in recent years he had to scale back his participation. We will miss his enthusiasm and initiative.

To the Herbert D. Stephens, Jr. Family. Our condolences in your loss of a father son brother grandfather and great friend. Having known Herb for 40+ years we all have suffered a great loss. Herb was one of a kind a perfect gentleman who lived his life at Mach 2 with his hair on fire. I know from having sat with him on numerous occasions when he departed this world, he was screaming at the top of his lungs, "what a great ride, let's do it again"! Though Herb has left this rock we will see him again in heaven with a basketball in one hand and a golf club in the other. The best we can do is attempt to live as he did with integrity, dedication and ethics. Herb's legacy lives on in those of us that new him best and I assure you I will boast of what an exceptional man he was!!

You've heard of all the good Herb Stephens Jr did in his life for young people, but this is about the last few years of his life. About four years ago, he suffered a stroke and went through the rigors of paralysis and rehab. After his recovery, in typical Herb fashion, he started a support group to help those of us who had suffered a stroke. As the leader of this group, he gave us encouragement and hope. He called us the 'Magnificent Team'. He made a real difference in our lives. We thank Kathy for sharing him with us. He will never be forgotten. Stan Wilkinson

My father, Hobert Whitey Null, would like to offer his condolences to all of Herbs family. My daddy thought the world of Herb as they were classmates and athletes together at C-KHS. He was very saddened when informed of his passing. Many prayers to all of you in the days ahead.
