Howard Glenn Adkins

HOWARD GLENN ADKINS passed away peacefully on November 1, 2025. He was born in Philadelphia, Mississippi, on November 11, 1933, to Tommie and Audrey Adkins.
After serving in the U.S. Navy, he attended college on the GI Bill and eventually earned a Ph.D. in geography. In 1970, he moved with his young family to West Virginia to join the Marshall University faculty. He proudly called the Mountain State home for the rest of his life.
Upon retiring as Professor Emeritus, he improved and maintained a 100-acre property he had settled on in Ona. He took up genealogy, which he pursued with the same methodological rigor he had applied to his scholarly research. He read voraciously, loved Westerns, and traveled throughout the country with his wife Dorothy.
Howard was predeceased by his son, Clark and his grandson, Logan. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; son, Steve (Annie), daughter, Gail, and daughter-in-law Robin; grandchildren, Stephanie (Daniel), David (Alyssa), Thomas, Johnathan (Janie), Duane, Eliza, and Benjamin; great-grandchildren Jordan and Lily.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wallace Funeral Home in Milton on Friday, November 7, 2025. The funeral service, also at Wallace, will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 8, 2025 followed by burial at Forest Memorial Park.
