Howard Mott Obituary

Rev. Howard H. Mott, Sr. October 16, 1920- August 5, 2006 COLUMBUS, GA— Rev. Howard H. Mott, Sr., 85, of Columbus, died Saturday, August 05, 2006 at his residence. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday August 09, 2006 at Trinity Temple Assembly of God Church 3000 12th Ave. with Rev. Michael A. McBride officiating. A private Interment will be held in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends this evening from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home and following the funeral services at the church, according to McMullen Funeral Home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus. Rev. Mott was born October 16, 1920 in Sylvester, Ga., son of the late Charlie Mott and Annie Hobby Mott. Rev. Mott served in the U.S. Army during WWII (Europe) and was later discharged in 1946 with the rank of Captain. He worked for Southern Foods as a Salesman and later as Sales Manager. Then God called him to start a mission for homeless and needy people. The Valley Rescue Mission opened its doors in September 1963 on 2nd Ave and 29th Street. Howard and a group of Christian businessmen were so grateful to God for this opportunity to serve Him by helping others. A board was named, including these men and Howard. A young man from Mobile, Al. was named as director. After a few months he left, and in 1964 Howard was named Director and continued in that position until his retirement in 1989. After his retirement, in recognition of his many years of faithful service, the Mission dedicated its new Men's Center in his honor, the Howard Mott Center for Men. Rev. Mott was a member of Trinity Assembly of God Church and was Pastor to the Seniors at Trinity. His heart's desire was to serve God and his fellow men. This he dedicated his life to doing. His two favorite bible verses were Jeremiah 33:3 and Philippians' 4:19. He was the Chaplain for the Exchange Club of Columbus for 17 years and was former President of the South Eastern District of Rescue Missions, Inc. He was preceded in death by his brothers, George Mott, Hubert Mott, Paul Mott and Homer Mott. Rev. Mott married his childhood friend Frances Voight Mott July 18, 1942, while serving in the U.S. Army. She still resides in Columbus, Ga. In addition to his wife Frances, Mr. Mott is survived by one daughter; Ann Mott Kirby and son-in-law Ben of Hamilton, Ga.; three sons, Howard H. Mott, Jr. and daughter-in-law Pam of Birmingham, Al.; Gary S. Mott and daughter-in-law Cathy of Oakwood, Ga.; and Rev. Father David W. Mott and daughter-in-law Bonnie Catherine of Ball Ground, Ga;. one sister, Erma Donahoo of Columbus, Ga.; eight grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Valley Rescue Mission, Inc. 2903 2nd Ave. Columbus, Ga. 31904 or Trinity Assembly of God Church 3000 12th Ave Columbus, Ga. 31904 or Columbus Hospice, 7020 Moon Road Columbus, Ga 31909. It was a blessing to know the Motts many years ago when they were members of the church my dad pastored. My mom was secretary in the office of the Rescue Mission in the early years. May God continue to bless you, Mrs. Mott. The work you and your husband have done goes on in the lives of those that were, and even today are, helped.

Dear Frances, How saddened we were to hear of Howard's passing. While we mourn, however, the angels are rejoicing and dancing around The Throne. The dedication, perseverance and gentleness the two of you lived has been an inspiration to multitudes. We were certainly priviledged to have served with you in our respective ministries during our time at Trinity. The legacy you and your precious husband began will live on in the hearts and lives of many. The Kingdom will be enlarged and God glorified through the ages. God bless you and your famliy. May His mercies be new every morning. All our love,
