Kathryn Adkins Obituary

KATHRYN "KAY" CONDE ADKINS, 86, of Barboursville, passed away Saturday, November 29, 2025. She was born January 14, 1939, in Barboursville, a daughter of the late Floyd Esten "Tommy" and Vinnie Faye Toler Thompson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orman L. Adkins; daughter, Clara L. Adkins; several aunts, uncles, niece, nephews and cousins. She is survived by her daughter, Beth Adkins (Brian Shaffer) of Cape Girardeau, MO; sister, Clara Rose Sadler, Barboursville; daughter-in-law, Nancy Jackson of Huntington; grandchildren, Nicholas (Abby) and Noah Smentkowski of Cape Girardeau, MO, Kate (Cade) Ball, Doc Jackson; and niece, Mary Kathryn (David) Saville.
Kay was one of the most loving, giving, tolerant, and understanding people you could meet except when it came to playing bridge, bowling, golf and supporting her beloved Thundering Herd. During those times her competitive streak emanated. She was a life-long resident of Barboursville and member of Kuhn Memorial Presbyterian Church. She was loved, adored and regarded as a second Mama and/or Grandma to many. She will be deeply missed, but her light, laughter and smile will forever shine.
In lieu of flowers, do something nice for someone. Suggestions include donating to the Hope House of St. Louis, American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association; volunteer at an animal shelter or senior center; checking on your neighbor; etc.
Services will be held in the Spring, a time of hope and renewal. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, is assisting the family with arrangements.
