Ray Mills

RAY MILLS, 79, of Wayne, W.Va., left this world to enter his new home on January 7, 2024, at St. Mary's Medical Center, Huntington, W.Va. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, January 12, 2024, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne, with Pastors Ronnie Ross and Fred Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery Annex, Wayne. He was born April 2, 1944 at East Lynn, W.Va., a son of the late Leo and Odessa Asbury Mills. Ray was a member of the Church of Christ and was a meat cutter for 40 years, starting at Asbury's Supermarket, Trautwein's and then retired from Wal-Mart. He was also a skilled carpenter and woodworker. Ray was well-known in the community for his love of coon hunting, bluegrass music and red Ford trucks. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Wilma Jean Smith and Carol Ann Chaffin. Survivors left to cherish Ray's memory are his loving wife, Carol Sue Maynard Mills of Wayne; a daughter, Beverly Mills of Wayne; a son, Kevin Mills and wife Jeanette of Kenova, W.Va.; a sister, Leota Queen of Wayne; five brothers, Herman Mills (Judy), Carl Lee Mills, (Sandy), Tim Mills (Thressa), Steve Mills (Rene), all of Wayne, and Mark Mills of Huntington; two grandchildren, Quentin Mills (Jess) and Callie Mills; three great-grandchildren, Jase Mills, Connor Rose and Caisen Rose. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Mack and the staff of St. Mary's Emergency Department and to Ray's nurse Logan and the staff of St. Mary's Intensive Care Unit, as well as all of his doctors at HIMG. The pall bearers will be Quentin Mills, Scott Queen, Matt Queen, Chris Smith, Justin Mills and Josh Mills. Visitation will be two hours prior to funeral services at Morris Funeral Home, Wayne.
