William Chambers Obituary

WILLIAM E. CHAMBERS passed away peacefully on August 19, 2023. William was raised in Huntington, West Virginia, the son of Nellie Glenn Mason Chambers and Franklin Mart Chambers. He met his soulmate and best friend Joann Mylar Chambers while still in middle school and celebrated over 65 years of marriage before Joann's death in 2021.
William completed his undergraduate studies in chemistry at Marshall University then earned his PhD in analytical chemistry at the University of Illinois. William's career in chemistry and later in management for Union Carbide began in Cleveland, Ohio then continued to New York City and finally Danbury, Connecticut. Upon retirement from Union Carbide, he continued his career with the GAF Corporation until he retired again and settled back in Huntington.
When not traveling or attending activities of their three active children, William and Joann especially enjoyed singing together in church choirs and quartets. William served in many church leadership roles and in his later years he served his church as part of state level committees in West Virginia. During retirement William and Joann traveled frequently and enjoyed their years as docents for Heritage Farm and Museum which was conceived and created by Joann's sister Henriella and her husband Mike Perry.
William is survived by his three siblings, Lee Chambers, Walter Chambers, and Margaret Bowen; son Martin Chambers and his wife Denise Chambers; daughters Beverly Prewitt and Brenda Drinkhouse and son-in-law David Drinkhouse. William was especially proud of his five grandchildren, Jason Chambers, Aaron Prewitt, Christopher Prewitt, Macy Drinkhouse and Jordan Drinkhouse. He also adored his five great-grandchildren, Luke Chambers, Nell Chambers, Rawley Drinkhouse, Ryn Drinkhouse, and Liam Prewitt.
Friends and family will gather for a celebration of William's life on Saturday August 26 at Reger Funeral Home, 1242 Adams Avenue, Huntington 25704. Visitation starts at 11 a.m. with a service conducted by Reverend Thaddaeus Allen to follow at noon. Burial will follow in Ridgelawn Memorial Park, Huntington. August 25, 2023

So sorry to learn of Bill´s death. I certainly will keep all of you in my thoughts and prayers tomorrow as I will not be able to attend the services. I am Joann´s cousin, Cathy Evans Smalley (Ruby´s, one of the Hite twins, youngest daughter).
I remember Martin, Brenda and Beverly from family gatherings at the Heritage Farm, even before it was open to the public. I am sorry that we haven´t stayed in touch through the years so that I could have known your children and grandchildren.
The older I get, the more precious those family memories become. Saying goodbye to wonderful parents is very difficult but knowing that Joann and Bill are together again in Heaven makes my heart smile. With love and deepest sympathy to all of you.
