Donald A. "Brownie" Brown

SULLIVAN - Donald A. 'Brownie' Brown, 79, of Springfield, formerly of Sullivan, passed away at 9:40 p.m. Tuesday (March 27, 2012) in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield. Celebration of Life services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Reed Funeral Home, Sullivan with Rex Crossland officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in the Arthur Cemetery, Arthur, with military rites conducted by the Sullivan American Legion Post #68. Memorials are suggested to the Clear Lake Church of Christ, Springfield, the Highway Church of Christ, Sullivan or to the Shultz Lewis Children's Home. Condolences may be sent to the family at reedfuneralhome.net. Don was born December 12, 1932 in Arthur, the son of Willard Guy and Hazel Marie Patrick Brown. He was a 1950 graduate of Bethany High School, a US Army veteran of the Korean War from 1953 to 1955, a member of the Highway Church of Christ, Sullivan where he served as an Elder for many years, attended the Clear Lake Church of Christ, Springfield and had served as the Sullivan Water and Sewer Department Commissioner for several years. Don had been employed at Barnes Floor and Wall Covering in Sullivan from 1955 to 1977. In 1977 he purchased the business and continued to operate it with his wife until their retirement in 1996. He was a avid, card carrying 'die hard' Cubs and Bears fan. He married JoAnne Jones on June 29, 1952 in Bethany and she survives in Springfield. Also surviving are his daughter, Cheryl A. (Mike) Pippin of Petersburg; son, Jeff L. (Debbie) Brown of Auburn; grandchildren, Emily and Katie Pippin, Ryan and Tyler Brown; several cousins, nieces, nephews and one aunt.
