Dorothy Sumpter Obituary

DECATUR - Dorothy Irene Sumpter, 91, of Decatur, IL, died Thursday, August 9, 2007, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Mt. Zion, IL. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M., Monday, August 13, 2007, at Brintlinger & Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL, with visitation 4 to 6 P.M., Sunday, August 12, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Decatur, IL. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or Tabernacle Baptist Church. Dorothy was born July 29, 1916, in Decatur, IL, the daughter of William J. and Lillie M. (Meece) Matherly. She married Homer C. Sumpter on March 21, 1936, in Decatur, IL. He preceded her in death in April 1990. Dorothy was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church for over fifty years. Surviving are sons Robert C. Sumpter of MS, Jerry G. (Kameron) Sumpter of Long Creek, Illinois; daughters Nina M. (John) Brisch of Decatur, IL, Anna L. Graf of Decatur, IL, Judy L. Vincent of Decatur, IL; sisters Emma (John) Farr, Grace (Kenneth) Smith; brothers Clarence (Bonnie) Matherly and Charles (Barbara) Matherly; 12 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren and 13 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by parents, husband, granddaughters Sharon Kay Hall and Brandi Sumpter, grandson Robert Sumpter, Jr., great grandson Ryan Card, sisters Flonnie Joines, Luevena Adams, Ella Sumpter, and Mildred Jean Matherly, brothers Ethel Matherly, George Matherly, Everett William Matherly, Edward Ulysses Matherly. The family would like to give special thanks to Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Staff, Nurses and CNA's for the wonderful love and care given to Mom during her stay. Obituary written by family members.
