Joan Geoghegan Obituary

Joan Dolores (Kruckel) Geoghegan

June 9, 1933 - February 5, 2025

Joan Geoghegan, 91, passed away on February 5, 2025, in Naples, Florida. Born on June 9, 1933, in New York, New York, Joan lived a vibrant life marked by her deep love for family, an adventurous spirit, and an unwavering curiosity about the world.

Joan was a devoted wife to her late husband, Barrett H. Geoghegan, and a loving mother to Barrett V. Geoghegan, Christine A. Geoghegan, and Elizabeth E. Geoghegan. She was predeceased by her son Geoffrey M. Geoghegan. Joan cherished her role as grandmother to Nicholas Geoghegan, An Edwards, and Wren Edwards. She also maintained close ties with her son-in-law Ian D. Edwards, her son's partner Lynn Longshore, and the family of her late brother, Theodore V. Kruckel II. During the last decade of her life, Joan also shared a deep connection with her companion Bob Hill and his family.

Joan graduated from Endicott College in Beverly, Mass. before meeting her husband on a blind date. While raising her children, she co-owned an antique shop with friends. Later, she transitioned into a successful career as a real estate broker. A woman of boundless energy and enthusiasm, Joan explored 70 countries across the globe. She had an innate ability to connect with people and cultivate lasting friendships wherever she went.

Joan's vivacious personality made her beloved by many. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. May she rest in peace, reunited with those who went before her.

A Funeral Mass will be held on March 27, 2025, at 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, located at 625 111th Ave N., Naples, Florida, 34108.

We are very saddened to hear of Joan's passing. Bill and I grew up with her brother Teddy and Joan in Manhasset High School in the 50's. We located to Florida recently and had always said we would get together. Joan's children were in school and friends with our children Bruce, Gayle & Tim. Thoughts and prayers are extended to the whole Geoghegan family. Katie & Bill Miller, 3520 Sandlewood Circle, Unit 2109, Naples, FL 34109.

Joan was always a burst of brightness in a world in need of it. I have wonderful memories of visits with her and Barry when we were in a group of friends in Decatur, traveling in S Africa and here in SW Florida. She was witty and kind at all times. I recall once I was amazed at how she managed living alone when she told Bev Erickson and I when we went to visit her that she had taken a tumble "but don´t tell my kids because if I´m not going to a home I want to pick my own!"
Everyone who was fortunate to have been touched by her in life is grieving along with her family.
Prayers for blessings and peace for all of you.

Joan will leave a big hole in the world, in Bentley and in my life also. We went on several river cruises together, had a blast. also played bocce and before covid had dinner as a group of 8 on Monday nights at Bentley. We also were at the same resort on Captivia at the same December. My husband had passed away in Oct. but we had planned a huge family reunion for Christmas week so had the memorial service that week since all the family was here. When I got home from the service I had locked myself out of my condo and Joan's son was staying in the same building and helped me get it. The loving and giving and helping others was passed down to her children as well. My life is richer for knowing her.

As a friend of Barry's growing up, the friends would all call Mrs. Geoghegan "Mrs. G". Mrs. G was a great lady. My condolences to Barry, Chris and Beth for their loss.

To All the Geoghegans,
My deepest and most sincere condolences on the passing of the Most Amazing Joan. Though I never saw her much over the years, it was, at perhaps the darkest days of my/your lives that even in her sorrow, she held onto, comforted, and consoled Me. I´ll never forget her. Extraordinary human, woman, mother, wife, friend. I´m so sorry I can´t be in Naples but I´ll be there in spirit, and will light a candle for her in my local church on that day. Love always, to all.
