John Austin Obituary

DECATUR - John Lee Austin (Wilkins), 46, departed this life on Thursday, July 31, 2008 in Decatur Memorial Hospital. John Lee was born December 12, 1961 in Decatur, Illinois, the son of John Frank Austin and Williene Fucher Austin. He was a graduate of Douglas MacArthur High School. He accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of St. Peter's AME Church, having served on the Usher Board and was a choir member. He was a former employee of Bergner's Department Store and Goldblatts. His love for cooking landed him many cooking jobs in Decatur. He loved his family and grandchildren. He leaves cherished memories to his daughters, Shakila (Lamont) Jackson, Stephanie Austin and Nicole Austin all of Decatur; mother, Williene F. Austin of Decatur; brother, Ernie Gerale (Priscilla) Grinage of Atlanta, Georgia; sisters, Karen G. Hamlett of Atlanta, Georgia and Karol V. (Elmer) Moore of Decatur; god-mother, aunt Genevieve McCutcheon; five grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. His father, one brother and one sister preceded him in death. Celebration of Life Services will be 11:00 am Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at St. Peter's AME Church, 515 S. Church Street, with Pastor Carey A. Grady officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services in the church. Burial will be held in Greenwood Cemetery. Please express condolences to the family of John Lee Austin at www.walkerfs.com. I just learned of Lee's passing today and I wanted to tell you that I am so sorry for your loss. I have so many fond memories of Lee and growing up on Forest - it seems like just yesterday we were running around playing hide-and-go-seek. I pray that God gives you strength and peace!
