John Lograsso Obituary

John Lograsso

November 18, 1948 - January 8, 2025

It is with profound sadness that the family of John Lograsso announce his peaceful passing on January 8, 2025 at the age of 76. John was born on November 18, 1948 in St. Louis, MO to Joseph and Lillian Lograsso. He will be lovingly remembered and terribly missed by his loving wife, Ann. Their marriage was highlighted by their children and grandchildren, many relatives and friends, and 44 years of awesome memories surpassing all obstacles.

John leaves behind six children, Lara STL , Jill (Joshua-d.2022) MN, John IL, Jill (Ben) STL, Kate (Matt) IL, and Maggi (Jay) AR who he loved dearly. He was "Papa" to ten grandchildren, Jess , Tucker, and Eli Holmes; Christian, Jacob, Abigail, and Jackson Whicker; Landon Muniz; and Camdyn and Korbin Stewart who all were the light of his life. John was survived by his sisters, Barb (Tony) Torti, Donna (Russell) Brown, Debbie (Bill) Hicks, and Tina Lograsso. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Grace (Terry) Bub and Joe Lograsso and by his son-in-law, Joshua Holmes. He will also be missed by his in-laws, Tom (Sandy) Eader and Judy Graham as well as numerous relatives and friends.

John played basketball at East STL High School, surpassing several school records, and went on to study and play basketball for Millikin University. There he was noted for his scoring and rebounding power and, again, met or surpassed many school records. In 1997, John received the honor of being inducted into the Millikin Athletic Hall of Fame. After graduation he served as Vice President of First National Bank until 1985 when he began his life-long career as a financial advisor and manager of both the E.F. Hutton Peoria Branch and the Decatur office. John loved helping people, so he served his clients with his heart as well as his expertise with the integrity required of his position until the summer of 2009. After a sudden diagnosis of lung disease, he was blessed to receive a lung transplant at Loyola Medical Center. He overcame all the medical complications of his transplant in the exemplary care of Dr. James Gagermeier and his team at Loyola. John volunteered for several causes, most notably as a volunteer assistant basketball coach at Millikin where he was devoted to the players and the game he loved so much.

His friends were a big part of his life as well. There were many travels with his friends, most notably to Las Vegas, and many other couples' trips. He loved golfing and the card room with his buddies at Southside Country Club where he was a member from 1979-2022.

John's great love was his family. He provided for, cared for, and nurtured them all. He fancied himself a comedian though his best audience was himself. His grandchildren enjoyed his antics and stories (fibs, he called them); making them laugh, carrying them on his shoulders as toddlers, and rocking them to sleep as babies were his favorite moments in life. As a father he cherished his children and was thought of as the counselor and advisor. When his children were young, "horsey back rides", chasing them, and throwing them up in the air were signature moves. He will be missed enormously in the years to come as they continue to make milestones and memories.

A visitation for John will be held at First Christian Church, 3350 N. MacArthur Rd., Decatur, IL, on January 20, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. immediately followed by a Celebration of Life.

Memorial Donations can be made in John's name to The Lung Transplant Program at Loyola Medical Center, 2160 S. 1st Ave., Maywood, IL 60153.

My oldest memory of Uncle of John was when I was around 5 and the family came up and we went to a Cardinal game together. They use to give out little papers to keep track of outs and strikes for the players. He taught me how to fill it out. It was one one my best memories. Always had a smile and a hug.

Johnny was a wonderful person and a very good friend. He was always generous with his friends and I have great memories of Johnny from trips we took together and time at South Side. Lunch won't be the same without him, but we will still flip a coin or play the numbers game to see who pays. And there will be an empty chair for our good buddy Johnny.

Dear Lograsso family: (particularly Maggi)
So very sorry to learn of John's passing! I was privileged to know him in two major ways...as a co-worker of my aunt( Marilyn Jenkins) at First National Bank then many years later as a parent of Maggi a classmate of my son AJ.
His work ethic, love of family, and sense of humor will be remembered by all. May God bless each of you and the memories you carry in your hearts help carry you through this difficult time.
