John David "Pappa" Scheffel

John David "Pappa" Scheffel, age 75, of Assumption, Il. and formerly of Jerseyville, Il. died Saturday (March 22, 2025) at St. Mary's Hospital in Decatur, Il.

He was born September 23, 1949 in Jerseyville, Il. son of the late George and Muriel Show Scheffel.

He married Kaye Marlene Anderson on September 10, 1983 in Kane, Il. and she survives.

His children, Mike Scheffel of Dixon, Mo., Jim Scheffel of Collinsville, Il., Jamie Allison (Jay) of Decatur, Il. Douglas Anderson (Michelle) of Louisville, Il.; grandchildren, Ashley Creamer (Alex) of Moweaqua, Il., Bailey Collins (Trent) of Bethany, Il., and Lilliana Anderson of Louisville, Il.; great-grandchildren, Waylon, Wren, Charlee; siblings, Donald Scheffel (Judy) of Jerseyville, Il., Elaine Turner (Gary) of Medora, Il.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Christine Sides; and sister, Janet Lebegue.

John was a graduate of Jerseyville High School. He farmed and trucked all his life. John was a member of the Jerseyville Moose Lodge for over 50 years. He was an avid bowler, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing corn hole, camping and gardening. But his greatest love was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the following for the care John received. A Celebration of Life will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday (March 26, 2005) at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton, Il. Burial will be in Borlin Cemetery near Carrollton, Il. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home. A meal for family and friends will be held following interment at Carrollton United Methodist Church Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the American Heart Association and sent to Airsman-Hires Funeral Home, 108 5th St. Carrollton, Il. 62016.
