Richard Paul Wiggins, 80, of Taylorville, IL passed away on Friday, November 28, 2025.
Dick was born on November 13, 1945 in Decatur, IL, the son of Paul and Helen (Acom) Wiggins. He married Dona K. Wilson on July 17, 1976. She preceded him in death on January 23, 2016. Dick retired from Caterpillar as an electrical inspector after 43 years of service. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps where he was the recipient of 2 purple heart medals. One of Dick's greatest honors was being able to participate in the 2023 Honor Flight.
Dick was a faithful member of Garver Brick United Methodist Church and a lifelong member of the Maroa Masonic Lodge #454. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan. Dick enjoyed sprint car racing, fishing and gardening. At Taylorville Estates he was the founder of the Late Bloomers Gardening Club and was also the evening time DJ. Dick never met a stranger.
Dick is survived by his children: Katherine (Kirby) Hames of Taylorville, IL, Amy Isham of Pana, IL and Paul (Kayla) Wiggins of Waynesville, IL; grandchildren: Rebecca Wiggins, Stevie Norman, Kaylynn Norman, Devyn Norman and Logan Wiggins; sisters: Karen Myers of Middletown, IL and Bonnie (Mike) Peterson of Hopkinsville, KY; brother: Jim (Kriste) Wiggins of Youngsville, NC; sister-in-law: Susan (Jim) Wallace of Texas; special friends: John (Sherry) Martin of Decatur, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister: Jeannie Blankenship, brothers-in-law: Fred Myers and Charles Blankenship, father-in-law and mother-in-law: Clifford and Beth Wilson; beloved pet companion: Clifford the big red dog.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Taylorville Estates for their loving and compassionate care.
A service to honor Dick's life will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at Calvert & Wikoff North Chapel. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation from 5:00-7:00 p.m., on Friday at the funeral home followed by a Masonic service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Dick will be laid to rest at Garver Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to Land of Lincoln Honor Flight or Gold Star Mission.
