MT. ZION - Robert A. Gotts Sr., 95, of Mt. Zion, IL, passed away at 7:03 a.m., Monday, September 22, 2025.
A private family memorial service will be held on Friday, October 3, 2025, at Calvert & Wikoff Funeral Home, Mt. Zion. Memorials may be made in Bob's memory to the Arbor Day Foundation. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family at Calvertmemorial.com.
Bob was born January 23, 1930, in Ypsilanti, MI. He was adopted as a child by Claude and Mildred Gotts in 1933, along with his older brother Kenneth. He married Shirley R. Smith on July 15, 1950. Bob retired from Mt. Zion Public Schools District #3 as a Jr. High School English Teacher. He began his work career teaching in Michigan, as well as, teaching in the Lovington, Illinois schools. He along with his wife Shirley owned and operated Shirley's Flower Shoppe in Mt. Zion for many years. Bob enjoyed fishing. He was a natural born artist. Bob established the Carlton Community Church in 1956, and it is still a thriving church today.
Surviving is his wife, Shirley Gotts of Mt. Zion, IL; children, Robert A Gotts Jr. (Sharon) of Decatur, Timothy Gotts (Deb) of Decatur, Joy Anne Woods (Kevin) of Mt. Zion, Daniel Gotts (Eleni) of Florida, and Tina Gotts of Ohio; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Shirley and family, You have my sympathy and may God give you comfort and peace during this time. Bob was a wonderful, kind man who David and I loved and appreciated so much. God gave him great wisdom and he used that to minister to a lot of people.
