Shirley Pickel Obituary

Shirley Louise Pickel, 96, of Illiopolis, passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at Vonderlieth Living Center in Mt. Pulaski. Shirley was born on October 4, 1929, in Decatur, the daughter of Donald and Doris (Gass) Leonard. She married Robert S. Pickel on October 5, 1947 and he preceded her in death on October 2, 1978. Shirley enjoyed gardening and planting flowers.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; siblings, Richard, Marilyn, Molly and Harry Leonard; as well as daughter in law Emily Pickel; and great great granddaughter, Madison Stephens.

Shirley is survived by her children, Carol Pickel, Victor Pickel, Pam Pickel, Don Pickel, Doris (Mike) Stacey and David (Companion Diane) Pickel; 9 grandchildren and several great and great great grandchildren; siblings, Fred and Steve Leonard; Leanne Ross and Maryann Harlow; and one aunt, Betty Bragg.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday October 22, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Riverside Cemetery in Illiopolis.

Memorial donations may be made to the Vonderlieth Living Center Activities Group.

Fullenwider-Park Funeral Home in Illiopolis is in charge of arrangements.
