Adrian Villaraos Obituary

Villaraos, Adrian Alfonso, passed away on Feb. 12, 2018 surrounded by family. Born in Havana, Cuba on August 2, 1950, he lived in Mexico, Puerto Rico and Missouri before settling in Hialeah (often quipping, "extra Hialeah non est vita"). He graduated from Henry H. Filer Junior High School, Miami Springs Senior High School and Miami-Dade Community College, where he met the love of his life, Diana, while playing a Cuban tumbadora in a campus corridor. A gifted painter, sketch artist and sculptor, he also completed coursework at Florida International University toward a degree in fine arts. By trade, Adrian was a master craftsman, cabinetmaker and shipwright, working up and down the Miami River, including at Merrill-Stevens and Allied Marine shipyards. The quintessential lifelong learner, Adrian earned a black belt in judo and a third Dan black belt in Shotokan karate, spoke several languages and was a dedicated student of world religions and mysticism. Adrian's thirst for knowledge was surpassed only by his passion for teaching, and he culminated his career running the School of Architecture model shops at both Florida International University and the University of Miami. He was a storyteller, scoutmaster, outdoorsman, practical joker, and lover of all things pork, but above all else, a boundlessly loving husband, father and grandfather to his wife, son, daughter and seven grandsons. In addition to his wife Diana of 43 years, he is survived by his son Adrian de Jesus Villaraos (Marika Lynch), daughter Ana Bar-chen and grandsons David, Daniel, Jonathan, Benjamin, Neale, Ian and Paul. A viewing will be held Thursday, February 15th from 6:00 p.m. to midnight at Funeraria Memorial Plan San Jose, 250 E. 4th Avenue, Hialeah, FL 33010.

On the anniversary of Adrian’s passing many of us have been asked to share memories of him.... I remember his generosity, his immense love for his wife, children and grandchildren. I remember how Adrian and I discussed books we had read, current events in the world and his wide knowledge of many subjects, both of us being avid readers, we had lots to talk.

Whenever my husband and I visited Florida Adrián and his wife Diana ( a close friend of over 30 years) would take us out to these great Cuban restaurants. We laughed a lot because of Adrian’s sense of humour and always had such great time! I really miss those times and remember them fondly deep inside my heart.

And last but not least, Diana my dear, dear, dear friend, I remember you daily and pray for your soul to find comfort in Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Saviour. I am here whenever you need.

Godspeed to the Villaraos family.

I just found out today.

Adrian will always be remembered by me with much fondness.
Adrian is the type of man one calls an exemplary father, husband, and grandfather. A dear friend to me for 30 years as well as is his beloved wife.

Adrian a true, compassionate and humble Christian man.
God has received a great man in His House.

God bless and give consolation to the family.

Adrian may God be with you now as He/she, in the many spiritual forms you identified him with, has always been. Many of us will miss countless stories of your adventures through life. You were always there for your friends. May you rest in Peace and enjoy the Spiritual world you were so fond of.

Totally shocked when I found out. Adriancito was my buddy in Filer and throughout high school and responsible for me marrying his cousin now 43 years! He also married Diana my wife's high school friend. Adrian was always a rebel in his own way but with a heart of gold. An excellent son, husband, father, grandfather. You will be missed. Our prayers are with all of you.

So sad to hear of his passing. I was happy to know him and learn from him about woodworking and so many other aspects of life at UM. One of a kind. He will be missed.

Although no words can really help to ease the loss you bear just know that you are very close in every thought and prayers.

Feb 14 (valentines day). Sitting on AA flt 1376 @ dfw bound for miami as they load a box labled "empty casket" w/his name on it. So I googled name. Very interesting life this gentleman had. Rest in peace Adrian

My heart hurts but I find comfort in knowing that Heaven gained the most interesting man in the world! Adrian was like a second father to me growing up. All of my childhood memories included him and his family. He was full of knowledge and jokes and loved to hang with his family. He was a great father, husband and friend. I have nothing but awesome memories like Disney trips, going to New York, and even taking me, my friends and his family to see the sunrise for my quinces then cross to Naples to see the sunset! I love you and I just wanted to say Thank You for being such a huge part of my life! Until we meet again, forever in my heart. Rest In Peace. ❤
