ALBERT MORRISON Obituary

MORRISON, ALBERT, JR., founding partner of Morrison, Brown, Argiz and Farra--the largest independent accounting firm in the Southeast United States--died Thursday morning. He was 72 years old. A native Miamian, Al attended the University of Florida, and graduated from the University of Miami in 1958, the same year he married his wife Joan. They were married for 51 years. It was in 1969 that Al sat at his kitchen table with fellow practitioners Sanford Caplan, Manny Zaic, Bert Brown and Alvin Brown, and together they formed a firm known as Caplan Morrison & Brown. The firm, now known as Morrison, Brown, Argiz and Farra, now has a staff of more than 300 and seven offices. Al was active in both business and civic organizations. He was a member of the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He was on the Board of Florida International University and chairman of the audit committee; he was long time chairman of the Dade County Industrial Development Authority; a board ember of Heico, Inc.; on the board of the Holocaust Museum on Miami Beach; and a founding member of Temple Beth-Am. He was also an avid golfer. Although a successful and respected accountant, Al was devoted to his family, and reveled being with his wife, children and grandchildren. His sense of humor was legendary. He was a caring, compassionate man who will be missed by many. He is survived by his wife, Joan; his three children and six grandchildren; a brother, and two nephews. The children are: Richard and his wife, Jennifer, and their children Elizabeth and Katherine; Judy (Feldman) and her husband, Hal, and their children Emma and Andrew; and Larry and his wife, Susan, and their children Brian and Jay. His brother is Dr. Theodore Morrison and his wife, Patricia and their children, Steven and Michael. Services will be at noon on Sunday, January 3 at Temple Beth-Am. 5950 N. Kendall Drive. Dear Joan and Family, So sad to hear about Al's passing. I know how hard the next few days will be, and you must rest assured that your memories and family will be there to sustain you now. It is hard--and since Al suffered all of the same trials that Barry did, try to think of him finally at peace and in a "better place". With love and good thoughts, Janice

Uncle Al was a part of my life since it began. Family functions, holidays, dinners, New Year's Eve and dropping in for drinks and conversation were always some of my favorite times. He taught me to work hard, laugh well and what a good single malt scotch tasted like. Al had a way of making me feel important, at any age. He gave me my first job during high school on my summer breaks from Andover where I learned about business and getting things done; from filing to running errands, 1040 vs 1120, what I could write off, picking up lunch for the partners and taking Tony Argiz's Porsche to the mechanic because I was the only intern that drove 5spd, there was never a dull moment. Al gave solid advice, genuine looks and kind smiles; a perfect mix. I miss him very much, am glad he part of my life, and will always remember him with love. I send my love to Joan, Ted, Richard, Judy, Larry, Elizabeth, Kat and everyone. I'm sorry I can't be with you now and look forward to seeing you soon. Consider my mother a representative, she's got the goods.

I had the privilege of working with Al Morrison and the firm back when I was a college student in the 70’s. I came to know Al as a kind and very compassionate person. He and the firm he helped create taught me a great deal but amongst the many lessons I learned was how to make a client a friend. Al will be missed by all who knew him. May his memory be a blessing forever.

Joan and Family:

40 years ago, young CPAs embarked on a road to create an oustanding firm. I was fortunate to be one of them. Al showed us all how caring about people and community would create that firm for which we aspired. Al was both a mench and a mentor for many budding CPAs. We have lost a pillar of all that is good in a man. Words can not express our feelings of sorrow and loss. Tears will not wash away our memories of the wonderful times we all had with the Morrison Family. May you all find comfort in remembering his loving and gentle ways of a Man of Valor.
