St. Philip, Barbados, Florida - Andrea Mention-Johnson, 72, retired administrative nursing officer, died January 4, 2022 in St. Philip, Barbados. Andréa spent most of her career at Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, Florida, where she worked as a nurse, eventually becoming the Administrative Nursing Officer after earning her Masters Degree in Health Services Administration from Nova Southeastern University. Andréa saw her career as more than just a job. It was also a way to serve others: patients, families, and coworkers, many of whom she guided and mentored, serving almost as a mother figure to younger or less experienced colleagues.
Andréa's life of service extended beyond her nursing career. She was involved in a number of community and service organizations including Toastmasters of Pembroke Pines Florida, where she was a Distinguished Toastmaster; Fort Lauderdale Associates Group of Jack and Jill of America, Inc.; Global Impact Committee Chair of Gamma Zeta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc; the West End Readers Book Club (Atlanta, Georgia); and a charter member of the Broward County Radiance Chapter of Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc. Andréa was also an active member of the Lighthouse Christian Fellowship in Tamarac, Florida.
Her wake is 3pm - 7pm on Friday, February 11 at Fred Hunter Funeral Home, 718 S. Federal Highway, Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33316.
