The memory of The Dungeon“ s star M T Graves is still being remembered and shared today 2024 as clear as the fond memories of a young boy growing up in Miami during the early 1950s. Thank God he sent Charlie Baxter into this world to provide youngsters a brief moment of pure happiness and enjoyment never to be forgotten.

I was a card-carrying member of the Graves Diggers when he was on Channel 7 in the Dungeon. Loved him and glad I took the time to call him when he was a classical music personality in Miami and I was working at WIOD.

Grew up glued to tube if MT was on. Just, just, just a staple of growing up exposed to scary "stuff" in the funnist, safest, group of friends. Your Grandfather, father, husband, son, brother, friend impacted thousands of kids and we now share the best memories. May our sharing our pleasure help with your grieving.

I remembered Charlie's birthday yesterday, Tuesday March 29, 2016. I posted a message about his birthday on The M.T. Graves Classics Comic Strip Group Site on Facebook. I still draw the comic strip now in 2016 in honor of Charlie Baxter. He asked me to draw it to keep M.T. Graves going for his fans. Billy Small suggested the title and Charlie loved it and Billy keeps the ideas flowing for me to draw. In 2013 I started writing the book "M.T. & ME & EVERYBODY! The Life & Times of M. T. Graves, Banjo Billy & Their Fellow South Florida T.V. Stars!" I finished it March 29, 2016 and it is on a Flash Drive. It is free to Charlie's fans and they can contact me at [email protected] if they want a flash drive copy of it.

I was watching an old horror movie, and remembered M. T. Graves from my youth in Miami. I was so glad to see so many others have kept his memory "undead" as well. Those shows instilled my lifelong love of horror films.
Mr. Baxter you were a true showman, rest in peace.

For Charlie:
George Chastain: The Creator of Egor's Chamber of T.V. Horror Hosts brought Charlie Baxter / M.T. Graves back to his fans in 2003 by adding Charlie / M.T. to his Egor's Website! Lots of Charlie's fans e-mailed George and George mailed the printed e-mails to Charlie. Also fans wrote letters to Charlie through George's mailing address. George hooked up M.T. with Forrest J. Ackerman, too when they exchanged autographed photos with each other with George delivering M.T.'s photo himself to Ackerman in person. George brought all of us together who appreciate Charlie Baxter. Charlie's co-workers, friends & fans. Thank you Charlie & George!
Happy Halloween 2010!

Dear Charlie,
I kept this guest book open for your friends and fans to leave their thoughts about you and to you. Today is October 4, 2010. I am drawing your comic strip for you about M.T. Graves in your honor for your fans so that I can carry on your legacy and your sense of humor for them and for me.
I learned alot from you Charlie and I am very happy that you told me to draw M.T.in a comic strip in April 2007. You taught me to have a better sense of humor and you told me to stick to my drawing. Drawing the comic has helped me very much to feel happy and to give me something to do that I love and enjoy.
I feel you with me when I draw it. Billy Small keeps the ideas flowing! He encouraged me to continue drawing it and you and Billy and I are all connected to this wonderful endeavor "M.T. Graves Classics" Love Always, Your Friend, Garnette

The weekend after Wed. Oct. 3, 2007 I was headed for a bookstore. I knew M.T./Charlie had passed away on Wednesday. I knew nothing about the article in the Miami Herald about him. There was a bar a few doors down from the bookstore and it was a hot afternoon and I was riding city buses that day so I knew a cold beer or a soda would hit the spot on that sunday afternoon. The bookstore was scheduled to open, later. I had been thinking about M.T. Graves all morning and as I sat in the bar....I thought to myself I wonder if anyone in here was a fan of M.T.'s., too like me.
A man was talking quite loud and I could hear parts of his conversation...all of a sudden he said loud and clear "There is an article in the Miami Herald all about M.T. Graves today! I used to watch that show "The Dungeon"! Charlie Baxter passed away and the article has alot of information in it all about him. He was a great person!"
I ran out of the bar to the 7/11 across the street and bought a copy of that newspaper! I am glad I went into that bar and I went up to the man and told him that I was a good friend of Charlie's and thanked him for what he had said.......
Sincerely,
Garnette

I saw these words written and rewrote them to say that Charlie Baxter gave us all wonderful things to
think about and to do. He was a very helpful person about
dealing with everyday life and sharing the knowledge he knew.
You can feel sad that he is gone,
You can smile because he has lived.
You can open your eyes and see all that he has left.
Your heart can still see him,
It's full of the love and knowledge and humor that he shared.
You can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.
You can cherish his memory and let it live on.
You can do what he would want: smile, open your eyes, love and go onward toward your cherished dreams and goals!

I cannot believe that it has been a year already, but Charlie is always near the forefront of my thoughts. All those who knew him will forever have his powerful voice ringing in their ears with grand pronouncements or witty observations. I have never met anyone who made me laugh harder or expanded my thinking more.

Since I still do much of the same type of work I did with him, I can hear his particular words of encouragement or caution as I go about my duties every day. I can also hear his unique and hilarious commentaries when I run across a bad performance or production. His insights are a gift that keeps on giving.

Some people you just never stop missing...

There is no way I can top all of the due praise Charlie Baxter has deservedly earned during his years in the public eye.

He will be sorely missed by many of us who grew up in South Florida in the 1950's or 1960's.

I recall vividly how he came to [what was then] Ida M. Fisher Junior High and during his visit, showed us his trade secrets... he became M. T. Graves right in front of us!

Years later, I was searching for a piece of production music a rival station used, and Charlie had access to it in Channel 7's music library; sending me a tape of it!

I was so thrilled to hear the music in its entirety... of course, thanks to the kindness of Charlie Baxter...

May he enjoy eternal rest and peace... and the unending thanks from a couple of generations of kids who loved his warmth and humor...

Charlie, Thanks for scaring me every saturday. I always looked forward to seeing what predicament you and the warden cooked up. The best part of your show for me was
the very beginning when all you saw
was the coffin in the dungeon and you would hear the wind and wolves
in the backround as the coffin lid
slowly opened and M.T.Graves slowly
sat up. God Bless you Charlie.

Charlie was one of the three outstanding pioneers in local children's television in Miami. Along with Channel 10's 'Uncle Martin and The Sunshine Ranch", Channel 4's "Skipper Chuck Show", Charlie's Saturday morning's "The Dungeon" was "must-see" for local kids in the late 1950's and early '60's. A proficient newsman and weather reporter, his persona of "M.T. Graves" will be his T.V. legacy All who faithfully watched him remember him warmly(including "The Warden").
