Chuck Bryant Obituary

Chuck Bryant was born on April 2, 1956, in Andalusia, Alabama where he graduated from Andalusia High. He received a BA from Harding University and a master's degree at the University of Alabama. From 1985 until 1994 he was a Trust Counselor in the Miami-Dade Public Schools, and from 1994 until his death he worked for Peace Education Foundation as a trainer, then Director of Teacher Education, where he taught others conflict resolution throughout the United States and internationally. Chuck completed fifty-nine marathons. According to Wikipedia, he was the first amputee to complete a marathon in all fifty states and D.C. He loved the outdoors, hiking, national parks, traveling, music, "discussing" politics and religion, and good food. He was an active member of Coral Gables Congregational Church, where he sang in the choir. Chuck is survived by his wife Jan Roelofs; his mother Edith Bryant of Montgomery, Alabama; brothers Keith Bryant (Alabama) and Kim Bryant (California); sister Marilyn (Bob) Adkins (California); his stepsons Julian and Benjamin DelRio, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and hundreds of friends. He was predeceased by his father, Chalmers Bryant. Services were held. Donations to the Peace Education Foundation.

I am so sorry to hear about Chuck's passing. We were very fortunate to work with him here in Morris County NJ where he trained many of our child care centers in the Peace Making for Little Kids curriculum. His energy, passion and enthusiasm were unrivaled and he influenced many teachers here who influenced countless young lives. What a wonderful man he was! My deepest sympathies to his family, friends and co-workers.

I will always treasure my memories of Chuck, a one of a kind man. I still have some of his letters written on the back of trash (scrap paper) with a bright marker. The envelope was addressed in calligraphy. Glad I knew him!
