Cynthia McLaughlin Obituary

Cynthia Jean Ferguson McLaughlin "Jeanie" peacefully passed away on May 10, 2012 in her home in Boynton Beach, FL. Jeanie was born on October 22, 1947 in Coconut Grove and had a wonderful childhood. She was predeceased by her parents, John and Ollie Wilkes. She was happy to be raised in a church family, Riverside Baptist Church in Miami, where she became a member, was baptized and was born again at age 12. She attended Ponce de Leon Jr. High and Coral Gables Sr. High. After graduating high school she worked at the University of Miami and then went into the advertising business at Crispin Advertising, which she loved. At age 24, she had an opportunity to sell radio time and she then worked at various radio stations, most notably WTMI and WKAT, until her first cancer diagnosis at age 39. Doctors Mnaymneh and Benedetto at UM's Sylvester Cancer Center saved her life and gave her another 25 years (she had been given six months to live.) Four years later, she was diagnosed with another cancer and was then cured. She lived cancer free until 2008 when she started getting tongue cancers. The final cancer came back in her bones. Her incredible strength and faith kept her going until the end. Jeanie married her true love and soulmate, Mac McLaughlin, in 1987 just before her first cancer surgery. They moved to Palm Beach County a couple of years later for Mac's career. Against all odds, Jeanie and Mac always believed that God and the doctors would pull her through. Mac was her rock and was always by her side. He was strong and never faltered. She is survived by her adoring husband, "Terrific" Mac McLaughlin, son Michael John Ferguson (Paula), whom she always called her proudest achievement, her two cherished grandchildren who brought her great joy, adored Davis and her beautiful Kimberly, her sister and best friend Joan (Jay) Wills, their children Julie and James, and Mac's wonderful children and precious grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous cousins, ex-husband Russell (Chris) Ferguson and oodles of friends. She will be so happy to see her Saviour and her parents and once again walk and talk and laugh and eat and dance and play the tambourine in the heavenly choir. If you would like to make a memorial donation, please send to the University of Miami School of Medicine or Vitas Hospice. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Riverside Baptist Church, 10775 SW 104 St, Miami, FL 33176.

Jeanne fettuccine it´s Lorri cacciatore we had so many memories we got into so much I think our favorite time of the year was Christmas when we were getting all your Christmas stuff up and we´ve had to go behind Mac when he was putting up the Christmas tree. He was so fast throwing it upthat we had to go behind him and straighten it all up, but we wouldn´t do it till he went to work. I loved having our time together our lunches or times that we went over to the store and filling up my van with all your goodies we got on clearance loved that you got to share my childrens on goings through out theirschool age going to the groves down the street. Think about our friendship often miss our talks. Miss you

There are so many times I think of Jeanie. A funny joke, a name I can't remember that she would know in a second. We had some of the most outrageously wonderful times and I miss her so.

Joan, Mac... Jeannie is an incredible spirit. She was upbeat and loved to share a laugh. I have many blessings, but spending time at the Wilkes home was always warm and inviting. I'm honored to be one of the "oodles of friends".

Mac,

The memorial was so beautiful and you could feel Jeanie's presence in so many ways. Even then her humor was important and she made sure everyone keeps smiling. Stay close to all your friends and allow them to help you though this time but your memories will last forever and they are great ones!

To my friend's family: I am so sorry for your loss. As you know, we go way, way back. Started at the U of M. Our friendship was so special. She was there for me when John passed away and now she is up there with him. I know they have alot to talk about. I will never forget the fun we had back when and all of our memories will always be in my heart forever. Thank you Joan for letting me talk to my friend before she passed. I thank God for that. I got to tell her how much I loved her and how much I would miss her. I love you Jeannie, wherever you are, and you will always be my BFF and E and E and E. My thoughts and prayers are with you Mac.

Forty years ago I had the pleasure of meeting and knowing Jeanie Ferguson. As far as I was concerned, she did more to make money for Crispin Advertising than anyone else there, including the big shots. How could the Kennedy & Cohen account ever have been handled without her tireless work and wizardry. "You should be goin ..." I echo everything everyone says. She was remarkable. I'll always remember her. All the best to you, Mac.

Mac, my heart is sad and the world has lost some of it's brillance with Jeanie's passing. She was a great gift to our radio business. My birthdays will never be the same. She'll be missed.

Mac, I knew Jeanie back in the 1960's at Crispin Advertising. She was the light of the office, always smiling and in an "up mood". As my secretary, her typing was far better then than mine is today. She was a joy to know and always pleasant to be around. I haven't seen her in years but I do understand how she will be missed by you.

Mac, my heart is with you over the loss of your sweet Jeanie. She was always so beautiful and gracious, and everyone who knew her loved her. She was such a trooper at all the black-tie events you brought her to, and she certainly had the patience of the saint. I will never forget the day we crafted fabulous cigar-box purses in your office, while you at a trade show in Vegas - Ha! God bless you and your family during this difficult time.
