David Fleeman Obituary

FLEEMAN DAVID B. The American Jewish Com- mittee is deeply saddened by the death of our beloved friend and long-time leader, David Fleeman. David was an Honorary National Vice President, a member of our National Board of Governors, National Leadership Council, Horizon Society, and a past president of AJC's Miami Chapter. A World War II Army hero who served valiantly throughout Europe, he cared deeply about democracy, social justice and the Jewish people. David was such a kind, gentle, generous human being. He was the true definition of a "mentsch." All who knew him will miss him.

David was a mentor to me, in so many ways as he was to so many. He was one of the kindest, gentle men I ever met. I will miss him. He was a good friend.

I had the distinct pleasure of working for this wonderful human being for seven years.

In 1957 I was interviewed by David B.Fleeman and Alan Greenberg at their construction site in Sky Lake.

Ground was already broken.

I had moved from Boston to Miami Beach and had no construction background but some secretarial skills and a very heavy Boston accent. They took a chance and hired me and the relationship lasted 7 years. They called me 'Suzy' from the then tv show with Ann Southern It was fine with me. If they could put up with my Boston accent then I could put up with Suzy. Even Mrs. Fleeman and their 2 sons would call me by Suzy.

David Benson Fleeman was truly the finest human being I have met in my life. His compassion for others, his understanding of human beings and his caring was always present. He definitely was one of a kind.

The success of the development of Sky Lake was wonderful and pretty soon they were searching for land further south. I went to the office on 7th st and then we all went to Perrine and the development of Green Hills came about.

Mr. Fleeman, as I always called him durng that entire 7 years I worked for him, was the epitome of a gentleman who was also the boss.

I will never forget him.
