David Tonis

TONIS, DAVID an exceptional man, died February 4th of renal failure. David was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. and spent most of his years growing up in Styvesant Town in Manhattan. He graduated from Styvesant High School, Syracuse University, and NYU where he received a Master's in Finance. He played football for Styvesant High School and Syracuse University where he was a half-back and ran interference for Jerry Brown, a future NFL star. He also received an offer to play in the NFL, but decided to pursue a financial career as a CPA. David was an avid runner and completed three Boston Marathons. He enjoyed competing as a swimmer and was quite close to making the Olympic Swim Team. In his professional life he was a CFO for many years for Janis Development, where his financial expertise helped to build many homes and Kendall Shopping Center on Kendall Drive. He was also the auditor world-wide for Standard Brands and trouble-shooter for MGM. At 21 he married Sue and had a nine month old son when tragically, they were both killed in an automobile accident. Five years later he married Nurith, a sabra from Israel. They had a wonderful marriage of 44 years when she died of cancer. Three years later he met Loni on E-Harmony and married her. It was a marriage made in heaven and they had 8 1/2 years of utter happiness. David was adored by all of his wives. In addition, he was thrilled to add and truly love Mitchell, April, Lara and their children Heather, Benjamin, Risa, Sebrina and Sebastian. He also has a cousin, Jeffrey, who he considered a brother (and his wife Kathy and daughter Mellissa).
