Elisa Deveras Yao

Elisa Yao Obituary

YAO, ELISA DEVERAS, a caring and loving mother and a cherished grandmother, passed away on February 15, 2006, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. She is survived by her six sons: Joseph (Glenna), George (Julie), John (Lianne), Jeffrey (Vivienne), Jerry (Alexi) and Jayson (Kristine), 18 grandchildren, sisters, Luz, Nita (Jimmy), Sr. Josephine, Mila (Ramon), brothers, Jorge (Baby), and Jesse (Connie). Elisa was born in Pampanga, Philippines, on November 14, 1926, to Antero and Antonia Deveras. She graduated from nursing college in the Philippines and followed her oldest sister, Luz, to NYC, NY, in 1957 to care for patients at Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital. She met her beloved husband, Joe, while on a carefree joyride with her friends in his convertible! They were so much in love; they brought 6 sons into the world. Elisa now became the proto-type model for "Super Mom"; she would gladly work a full-time job to help her husband provide a comfortable life for their growing boys. Elisa worked as a RN at Jackson Memorial and then later at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. Because she was a devout Catholic that understood the importance of God and Jesus, she made great sacrifices to send all her boys to St. Rose of Lima and Archbishop Curley for education and religion. Throughout her life, she exemplified family values, tradition, and a fun loving attitude. She has her family's undying respect, love, and commitment to continue to enjoy life and family. Family will receive friends at the Cofer-Kolski-Comb Funeral Home, 10931 N.E. 6th Ave., Miami, FL, on Tuesday, February 21, 2006, 6-8 PM where Prayer Services will be held at 7PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, February 22nd, 10AM at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, followed by entombment at Southern Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Elisa to the Alzheimer's Association. To visit this Guest Book Online, go to www.herald.com/obituaries.
