Elisabeth Truby

TRUBY, ELISABETH Her father was Dr. Henry Mayer Truby who died in 1993. Elisabeth is survived by her mother: Ann-Sofi Truby Montana, her sisters Lois Anne Truby and Susanne Prudence Truby, her brothers Frederick Sundin Truby, Henry Nicholas Truby, and Christopher Nils Truby. Her nieces and nephews are Daniel Paul Thompson, Katie Anna Lisa Thompson, Mitchell Raymond Truby, Griffin Bjorkman Truby, Hudson Bengt Truby, and Adina Ann-Sofi Truby. Family history: In short order, after living in Sweden, California, and Maine in 1965 the family settled in South Florida in the South Miami area. The family had a pony and a pony cart in which Elisabeth would give rides around the neighborhood to everyone. She eventually owned several horses over her lifetime. After spending a year in college in Texas, she got an offer from the Miami Seaquarium to work as a dolphin trainer. Her father had been involved with the Seaquarium through his dolphin research and all of the Truby kids grew up around dolphins. Elisabeth took the job and spent 10 years at the Seaquarium as a dolphin and orca trainer. A naturally beautiful person, her likeness was showcased all over the world on billboards and advertisements for the Seaquarium. After working there for 10 years she became disillusioned with the treatment of the animals and left the Seaquarium. Elisabeth then entered training to become a firefighter. After graduating from Fire College she eventually was hired by, and became the second woman firefighter in the Coral Gables Fire Department. She joined in 1992 and had to work 24 hours around the clock during Hurricane Andrew. She saw much tragedy on the job; true to her nature though, she loved helping people and was very proud to become a paramedic and ladder driver for the Fire Department. She retired from the force after approximately 20 years on the job. With her 5 acres in the Redlands Elisabeth opened up her home to friends, family, and children. Her "farm" was a joy to literally hundreds of people over the years. Riding her horses, playing with her menagerie of dogs, cats, peacocks, chickens, and a blind turtle and riding various motorized vehicles around the farm was a joy to kids of all ages. Elisabeth lived her life like we all should: She never hesitated to dive head first into an interest. She was selfless, always going way out of her way to help stray people and animals her ENTIRE life. My family has always been enormously proud of my sister, but maybe more importantly, we are all better people due to her magnificent lifetime of example.
