Felix Lima Obituary

LIMA, FELIX, died peacefully on August 30, 2008. He was born in Cuba on May 2, 1938. Felix came from Cuba in 1960 and, as a young man, joined the C.I.A. as a Communication Officer, and also took part in the Bay of Pigs Invasion. After that, he moved to Milwaukee, WI, where he obtained a Master's Degree from Marquette University in Business Administration. In 1969, he married his wife Sonia - who has always been by his side and remained there for 39 years - and moved back to Miami with her and his much loved mother-in-law Aida. Thereafter, he worked for the I.R.S. and served as an Adjunct Instructor at Broward Community College and Florida International University. In 1972, he obtained his license as a C.P.A. and established his accounting firm through which he practiced for many years. In pursuit of further challenges, he also earned his license as a Certified General Contractor and began his development career in the years that followed. As the President and CEO of Jessla Construction Corp. and Lima Development Corp., Felix worked arduously as a developer and contractor, often achieving what others thought was impossible. His final legacy, which he proudly and tirelessly created with his son, Alan, was the Grove Harbour Marina project. Felix was also active in numerous business and community organizations, including serving on the Executive Board of the Latin Builders Association. He also donated his time and efforts to local churches and charities, such as St. Paul Lutheran Church and Make- A-Wish Foundation. Although filled with a lifetime of business accomplishments, his greatest joy was that which he experienced as a loving husband, amazing father, and unforgettable grandfather. Felix will be missed by his beloved wife and soul mate, Sonia, their two children Alan and Jessica, his son-in- law Jay, and - who he lovingly called his "precious gifts from God" - his grandchildren, Alec, Alessandra and Anastasia Leyva. Felix is also survived by his siblings, Valentin Lima and Maria Rey, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Felix's memory to UM Sylvester Cancer Research Institute, P.O. 025388, Coral Gables, Florida 33102. Visitation will begin at 6:00PM on Tuesday, September 2nd at Caballero Rivero Woodlawn, 8200 Bird Road. Religious services will be at 1:00PM on Wednesday, September 3rd at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 10700 S.W. 56th Street, Miami, FL 33165. Dearest Lima family, I am sorry to be late with my regards. My warm memories of Felix run deep as do the testaments of his generosity and caring. Our years as friends and family at St Paul serve me well while I remember as a child the kindness of your family to mine. Thank you for sharing Felix as you did and opening your home to me and my family. Felix's humility and sincerity are heroic in my mind and noble. I certainly will never forget him and will always hope to emulate what he shared with me. I and my family pray that memories serve what they can, but that God's Grace, which is sufficient for all, would be the healing that you rely on and receive the most. Please accept our regards and best wishes. Adee and Liz Yates and family

To the Lima family I just want you to know your husband and father Felix will be missed. It was an honor to have known him, and always someone I looked forward to seeing in church. He was a genuine person who was always kind, and soft spoken. Strong in his faith, and an inspiration to myself. The Navarro family will have you all in our prayers, and rest assured he is blessed and in a better place. God Bless you all.

Jessica, Alan, and Sonia: I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Felix. He was the coolest guy at St. Paul's, and I am so blessed to have known him. He always had a smile and hug waiting for me after church. I remember the times at your house (Cabbage Patch Party!), not to mention times hanging around St. Matthews...I cherish these memories and I hope you find peace knowing your father/husband touched so many lives. God bless you guys...

Sonia mi hermanita, Jessica and Alan: I mourn with you. No-one could know a nicer guy that Felix and I'm delighted to have had him as a friend. His wisdom and gentleness were beyond comparison and I'm proud to have shared time and life with him and with you. Your loss is our loss as well and at this time of grief I can only pray The Lord to comfort you Himself, as none of us can except by saying "thanks" for sharing him. And may Felix's love for you in his life-time encourage you also in the days ahead. The Lord be with you.

Dear Sonia, Jessica and Alan, my heart goes out to you at your loss-- the loss of such a man, such a husband, such a father. I consider it a great privilege and honor to have known Felix and to have served him as pastor, and then to work so closely with him on the school project and to see at close hand his wisdom, faith, calmness, and careful decision making. How I admired him. May the Lord strengthen you as you suffer from the loss of his reassuring presence; and at the same time may the strong, loving presence of Jesus' Holy Spirit fill your hearts while Felix will always fill your memories. With my love in Christ, Pastor Schuette

Dear Sonia, Jessica, Alan and Family,

I want to offer you my sincerest condolences. I basically spent most of high school at the Lima home and have very fond memories of those years. Felix was always so kind and welcoming to us and would tell us the funniest jokes.

Since then, I was able to witness how he truly relished his role as a loving husband, father and doting grandfather. He was a wonderful man and we will all miss him dearly.
Love,
Yezmin Munoz
