Fred Skomp

SKOMP Fred Skomp, long time resident of Key West, passed away peacefully at home on Jan. 30, 2014. Fred was born Feb. 24, 1943 in Kokomo, IN. Before moving to the Keys Fred was in Upper Management for a new & growing shipping company, UPS in New York City. Fred & his wife Cindy, moved to the Florida Keys & purchased Atlantis Marina on Long Key in 1976. From there Fred & Cindy moved to Key West in 1986 & bought & renovated several private homes before buying & developing Conch Harbor Marina in Key West with business partner the late Joe Roth & afterward developed Hurricane Hole Restaurant & Marina on Stock Island with partner Tim Root. Fred Cindy & son Curtis also started & owned Southernmost Commercial Real Estate from 1992 to 2000. Fred & Cindy traveled the world & sailed all 7 Oceans & Continents. He loved boating, fishing, golfing & time with his family. Fred is preceded in death by father Roy, mother Thelma & brother Russ. Fred is survived by his brother Mark (Kathy) from Chattanooga, TN & sister Phyllis (Richard) from Hillsboro, OH, life partner & wife of 42 years, Cindy, sons Curtis (Mariana) Skomp of Key West, & Christopher (Rhonda) Skomp from Noblesville, IN. Also survived by grandchildren that loved him very much, Mia, Corey, Jacob & Tyler Skomp along with many loved nieces & nephews around the country, extended family in Lima, Peru. Also many great friends in the Keys. A celebration of Fred's life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers please donate to the SPCA.
