Gerald "Jerry" Derbish
March 31, 1944 - September 13, 2021
Miami, Florida - Jerry Derbish passed away in his home at the age of 77. Facing several serious medical issues over the last few years he showed tremendous fight, courage, and never once complained. He considered himself "one lucky SOB". Born and raised in Pittsburgh, he was always proud of his Yinzer heritage and remained a steadfast advocate for the city of his youth. After graduating from Duquesne University, he volunteered for the army where went to Officer Training School and served with distinction becoming a Lieutenant and earning a Bronze Star. Upon completion of his service he attended the University of Miami and earn his graduate degree. While in Miami he met Miriam "Poe" Hutson and the two were married for over 50 years. He was an incredibly devoted and affectionate husband. They have three children: Mary Hannah, Jackson, and John. He also has four grandchildren. He was loving and loyal, and funny and quick witted. He was hardworking and generous. He loved ice cream and pierogies. We will miss him dearly.

Poe, sorry to hear of the passing of Jerry. Your family were great neighbors. Cindy and I I have spoke of you all often. I always looked on the sideline for Jerry during the Steeler Dolphin games. With sadness Charles and Cindy Thompson

I worked for Mr. Derbish at a Retirement Home in Hialeah, Florida along with his longtime secretary Mrs. Ella Mae Huff in the 80,s. Mr. Derbish was very much admired and loved among the elderly community and his employees. As I write this condolence I am sad at his passing; however smiling knowing he made work so easy, pleasant and enjoyable due to his funny ways of looking at life. He would play pranks on Ella Mae and me all the time. He was a devoted Pittsburgh fan . I never forgot the time we saw him reading the newspaper; and we placed a puppy on his newspaper and the pup automatically relieved himself on Derbish's desk. You had to be there to see his face. It was funny. Mr. Derbish will be missed dearly as this world needs more people like him to add humor and value to one's life. Rest in Peace Mr. Derbish. Thank you for sharing your family with us. My condolences to Mrs. Derbish (Poe) and his lovely family. Thank you for sharing him with us.
