Upon graduating from my drafting class in 2005. Only 1 interview was granted and that was from Gopman Construction Engineers. My interview process was one of those 5 sec processes where they relay the message of "We will get back to you!". At this time Herbie was not involved in the day to day of the office and never was really at the office except for emergencies. After my interview process wrapped up in 5 seconds flat as I was to exit the building guess who came that day!!!!! This was my first meeting of Mr. Gopman and he asked "What's your name young man? and what's my purpose at the office?" I answered "My name is Carl Bryan and I just wrapped up my interview for the drafting position that was open!" He then asked "How was the interview process?" and I answered "Very brisk! Much haste!" ... Herbie then said lets go back up stairs and go over this interview process again... So he called all of the hiring staff back into the office up stair of the North Miami Office and he asked me all the key questions of the hiring process and that's when the Engineer running the show at the time said to Herbie right in front of my face "He has no experience! He's no good for us!"...and this is the story of Legends this part... Mr. Gopman stopped him mid sentence and said "If he can't gain experience here with us when will he ever be able to gain any experience?" "Carl you are hired and welcome to the staff!" Mr. Gopman stood up and exited the building and left the hiring staff with lemons in their mouth... but it was this opportunity given to me by Mr. Gopman that ultimately started me into the profession of Architectural Engineering and Drafting. I always think of Mr. G and what he did for me he did not have to do any of it and the staff was very salty about it but whenever I would put in my resume there after the "Gold Star" of my resume was working for "Gopman Construction Engineers" ... Mr. Gopman, Mr. G, or High Rise Herbie... Thankyou!! Thankyou!! and Thankyou!!! (P.S. These Miami high rises need your engineering expertise during these times!!) *As a young 19 y.o. black male at the time you really left a forever imprint on my heart and mind forever Mr. G and Thankyou again!! My your kind spirit continue to dwell among us!!

So sorry to hear of Herb's death. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. He was such a wonderful mentor to so many and one of the finest engineers I've ever had the pleasure to work with. His smile was magic A giant of a man to all who knew him.
