Jayne Flynn Obituary

Jayne La Bruce Sherrill Flynn passed on to her Father, in her home, just 7 days after her "fabulous" 71st birthday. She was surrounded by her children, sister and brothers and best friend. Jayne's illness was brief. She is predeceased by her mother Rita Sherrill and father David Sherrill. She is survived by her daughters Heather Odeh, Sheryl "Sis" Flynn Ashford, her son-in-laws Rami Odeh and Chris Ashford, her brothers David Sherrill, and Russell Sherrill and sister Karen Hucks; her grandchildren Ryan and Hana Odeh; her cousins Carolyn "Bee" Sirkin, Gail McCaslin, Ronnie Durner, Mike Durner, Catherine Ball, Joe Durner, Beth Durner, Leah Durner, Eric Durner, and Teddy Deakin; her niece Michelle Sherrill and nephew David Sherrill Jr., her best friend Maria Antonia "Tonie" Gall; her "adopted daughter" Dagmar Vaught; and her soul friend and spiritual faith partner Fr. Sean O'Sullivan; and many many close friends and colleagues. She was born in Asheville North Carolina, attended numerous schools while growing up, received her mathematics degree from Barry College and nearly completed her PhD in psychology at the University of Miami. She enjoyed teaching and guidance counseling students for over 32 years with the Dade County School System and spent the last 12 years as a middle school counselor at Guilliver Academy. Her beautiful life was one of service and love to her family, to the children, parents and staff she counseled, and to her church, Little Flower in Coral Gables. Jayne has been a member of Little Flower for nearly 50 years. She was a biblical scholar and in 1977, she founded a Bible Study in her home that eventually became the Little Flower Bible Study. Jayne especially loved serving as a Eucharist Minister for the 5pm Saturday mass. Her dedication to Little Flower was demonstrated by her service to teaching Sunday School, teaching and sponsoring new Catholics through the RCIA, and participating in Crusillo retreats. Jayne also loved serving the Sisters of Charity Missionary. She fell in love with Jesus at the age of 6 and lived a life of simplicity and complete surrender to His work. She was His vessel to do good in the world and everyone she met, she touched deeply. Jayne is an example of kindness, gratitude, peace and joy. We love you Mom, we are going to miss you. In lieu of flowers, the family plans to establish the "Jayne Flynn Scholarship Fund" to help support single mothers with financial hardship who wish to send their children to Catholic schools for education.
