JOAN BARON Obituary

BARON, JOAN SYLK, left us February 26, 2010 to join her parents, Albert and Sophie Sylk and her husband Lou Baron. Joan and Lou moved to Miami from Philadelphia in 1950. She was a devoted mother to Randi (Sami) Kalimi and Wendy (Gary) Jones. The worlds best grandmother to Ari Kalimi and Kelli (Dave) Schnurman and Andrew and David Jones and great-grandmother to her twins Leila and Joshua. She was also a second mother to Nancy Kaplan and Nolvia Howard. Joanie went back to college in her 40's and received her Bachelor's Degree at Barry University where her professor, Daniel Considine became her lifelong friend. She was very active with the Miami Beach Garden Club, Joanie was president and a lifetime member of Women's American Ort. She was also president of the Shore Unit of the Papnicolau Cancer Research Institute. Joanie was an active member of the Miami Beach Fine Arts Board, Sunflower Society and several PTA's. The Baron Antique Shows were a result of Joanie's love for jewelery and antiques. Everybody that knew Joanie loved her. Joanie brought joy and happiness to everyone's heart she touched. Every time we see a beautiful orchid we will think of our mother. Joanie had the ability to light up a room and she will always light up our lives forever. We want to thank all the devoted friends, family and care givers for being by our side, and loving our mother. Nolvia, Lynn, Iveth, Tia, Cynthia, Dorothy, Evrance and Maggie. Our lives will never be the same without Joanie. She will live in our hearts forever. Services will be 12 noon, Monday March 1, 2010, held at: Blasberg-Rubin-Zilbert 720 71st St. Miami Beach, Fla. 33141. View this Guest Book at www. MiamiHerald.com/obituaries.

Aunt Joanie, We miss and think about you each day! All we can do is remember the wonderful times we had with you. You always called me "Doll" and would always say "Oy Vey". The friday nights, parties, our Catfish dewey's and Thai Restaurant moments and occasions you made possible will never be forgotten. Your love, and devotion to your family made you a one of a kind and you will never know how much you are missed! Thank you for being the best Aunt a kid could ask for! Say hi to Big Pops and Uncle Lou for me and everyone else and promise to always look down and watch over us all we need your guidance in our lives! Until next time! Love you, your nephew, Matt xoxoxo

My god, I could go on forever about "ma". Thank you for taking care of me when I couldn't take care of myself. Thank you for allowing me to spend Friday nights at your dinner table and for having a daughter who I still can call my friend.

Dear Randi, Sami & Family;
We loved Aunt Joanie; from the very first time I met her in 1984.She insisted we stay with her and Uncle Lou! She rolled out the red carpet, and we sat on her bed and talked for hours!! Ever since then, she treated Mike, my children and myself like Gold! She was very special in so many ways - openhearted, generous and loving are just to name a few. Every time we came to visit she would say, “I saved something I thought you would like.” Matt, Steven, and Robert always looked forward to Friday Night Dinners with Aunt Joanie and Uncle Lou. The Fourth of July Barbecues at your Mom’s home became a staple in our summer vacations. We will never forget all of the precious memories we have of Aunt Joanie! We love you and your family and will continue their traditions with you!
All our Love,
Roseann, Mike, Matt, Steven & Robert

Dear Randi,

At times like these words cannot say the things we would like them to but may it help to know thoughts are there with you. I was sad to know your "angel" has left, that is how Janice always referred to her. Please accept my deepest sympathy.

In 1966 Mrs B opened her home and heart to me as she did with many of Randi's friends. Her advice, guidance and warm hospitality helped mold our young lives. She seemed like a second mother to many of us. Thank you again Mrs. B, God Bless you and may you rest in peace.

Sincere condolences... While I didn't know Joan well personally, I do know through conversations with my mother (Gloria Geyer), the acceptance and warmth Joan extended... Holidays, weekly dinners, family events, it was always shared that Joan's home was warm and welcoming, which speaks of her heart and commitment to family. With my respects and appreciation... When I was 13 "Aunt Joanie" told me the facts of life on the steps of her swimming pool. Mrs. "B" was a woman who i awlays admired for her kindness, intelligence (she knew everything) and giving heart. I will always love you!

Our precious Joanie, you will be in our hearts forever. As someone who knew Joanie through business, she embraced myself and my son, Terry when we first approached over twenty years ago. She was so fresh, honest, always there with a tight hug and a steady smile. Joanine was a person who wanted to help you in any way. I've seen her shed a quick tear for any story which touched her heart. Her devotion to her family was strong and everlasting and she had a huge heart. I am glad to be counted as a person whose life was touched by this gorgeous, larger than life person. Joanie your spirit will live on inside us, your family, and friends-forever. Rest in peace lovely lady.......Bunny and Terence Waldron

What it means to lose you, noone can ever know

Joanie was my friend, mentor & confidant for over 46 years. She had the most loving soul ever. She found good in everyone- no matter what the circumstances were. If more people were like Joanie-the world would be a better place. RIP, my friend & give kisses to Lou, AJ & Sophie, and pass on the message that I gave you. I will miss you greatly.

With love,
