Joy Fried

FRIED (PAULINE) JOY, 86, lived a wonderful life until Sunday, February 7, 2016. Joy personified the definition of "joy" - a source of pleasure, delight and a good feeling in the soul. "Joy" emanated from her to her family, friends and all with whom she interacted. Joy, daughter of Meyer and Sonia Fine, was born in Woodbury, TN. At 17, she came to Miami to attend the University of Miami. Shortly thereafter, she met Mortimer Fried on the beach. They married August 1, 1948. They were among the first 100 families to move to Key Biscayne in 1951. Joy, a giver, provided love, friendship and support without asking for or expecting anything in return. For this, she was loved by all. Joy was involved in the community. Though she was a substitute teacher and a realtor, she made her impact through her service and social life. In the 1950's she raised her children and was a Cub Scout den mother. She made many friends playing tennis and mahjong, partying at the Key Biscayne Yacht Club, and serving in the KB Women's Club and in the American Legion Auxiliary Post. Joy is survived by Mortimer, her husband of 67 years, and her children and grandchildren: Ivan Scott (Jackie), Sima; Mark (Gail), Matthew (Andrea), Rachel & Amanda; and Dyan (Steven), PJ, Arielle, Brett & Jared. Services will be held on Tuesday, February 9th at 11:30 AM at Temple Israel of Greater Miami, 137 NE 19 Street, Miami. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to American Legion Auxiliary Unit 374 or the Key Biscayne Community Foundation.
